GK mb200 ultra light head?

Now I feel kinda dumb. Just a few hours after my whining :crying: post about not hearing anything I have the amp in my hands.

I don't think it's that they are beta testing through paying customers. There could be any number of reasons why some went out that way. Maybe the prototype didn't have the same issue as the first production run. Also first production runs of anything frequently have issue(s). The good news is that they will make it right. Good on GK.

No hype - this is truly a killer little amp.

So my little MB200 isn't noisy after all. It was a lighting thing/single coil thing. My Clement has a single jazz bridge pickup, and that is what I was playing through it when I first bought it. The P-Bass sounds great through it, and the head isn't noisy at all. Very very cool amp! Ideal backup IMO.

Guys, I am down sizing and want to play this with my Ampeg Classic 2-10. I play pretty much everything with my Warwick Dolphin.
We only jam now and then so 98% of the time its in my music room.
Good fit?
Present amp is a Hartke HA2000.

Second, I also play guitar..sorry but it is a JP-7!
I was wondering if I used my 1-12 speaker, this amp and a tube screamer TS-7 or Metal Muff, do you think it would sound good?
Just looking to jam at home.
Sold all my tube amps as they were to loud for where I play.

Bevo - I don't know about anyone else, but I *love* regular guitar through GK amps (an old 400RB would be perhaps my favorite solid-state amp approach to guitar). Give it a shot and let me know how it sounds with the MB200.

Just talked to the tech at GK and he can't recreate the hissing. I walked him through what I had been using and the testing I did myself (keeping everything but the amp head consistent).

Ugh - I really hope it wasn't just my imagination.

The tech wasnt connected to the same power source that you were using. Did you check the ac power line for correct wiring with a tester?

I have a MB500 and was concerned about the hiss when comparing it to my Genz 3.0. After asking around here and trying some GK amps at guitar center I've determined that all GK's have a bit of tweeter hiss as you turn up the master. It's nothing that should affect you on a gig.

I doubt that you were imagining it. Something was different with your environment vs his test bench. Just make sure he actually plugged a bass into it and had a cab plugged into it, and checked the DI output in pre/post EQ settings when he is listening for the noise. That's about all he can do. If it passes there, then you probably have something in your room causing the hiss that this amp is more sensitive to (a laptop in the room has caused noise in my amps, as well as my blackberry in my pocket, a bass picking up noise, etc).
My first one was reall noisy. It would hu out the DI until I plugged a cable into the MP3 jack. It hissed out the amp regardless of what I did. GK did me right on that amp. Its frustraiting, but hopefully you will get it resolved.

I can't have hiss in the DI, but I'll live with some in the cab if it isn't too bad. My MB200 is dead silent in the DI and the amp.

I've used the DI once - didn't notice hiss but this was on a live gig and not recording. Also mine is pretty quiet through the tweeter with the master down. I don't see myself ever cranking the master up to where the amp starts really hissing ( around 3 o'clock) - that would be extremely freaking loud!

The hiss can still exist in the upper range of the woofer, so I still hear it if it's there. You are right in that you probably won't ever her it at a gig, but I audition most of my amps in my practice space at pretty quiet levels. I also usually plug the DI into a mixer to test/listen to the DI before I use an amp live, just so so I know what is going on when I hand it over to the sound guy. Live, it call gets masked so it doesn't matter.

I used mine on Sunday through a decent sized PA and the DI sounds good. Its clean and clear. Had to crank up the amp quite a bit through my GS112 though. Still, it sounded very good, and has plenty of volume considering its size!

Just to add, mine hissed the same amount regardless if the volume was at 0 or pegged o'clock. Bass plugged in or not made no difference with the orginal MB200. It just needed to be powered up. Since it didn't get louder, turning up the bass drowned it out, but you could hear it hiss when you weren't playing. This was unlike my MB500 amps that gets a little hissy when you crank the master up pretty far up (12 o'clock anyhow). It would be quiet if the volume going to the cab was low and would get louder as you turned up the master.
