GK MB200~ What cab(s) are you guys using?

That's interesting. I wonder if Greenboy et.al. found a way around the port chuffing with the Crazy 8 or is highpassing just an accepted part of using a cab that small? Really I don't have an actual need to change from the Wizzy 10, as it does a fine job for most of the places I play and is hardly a large thing to lug around.
My MB200 usually stays close to the flat settings for the bass and low mid controls (that's about 10 o'clock and 1 o'clock, right?), but I tend to take the high mids down a touch with double bass as the Wizzy is quite lively in this range. For bass guitar I leave the high mids in there as adds a welcome touch of definition. I don't use any sort of outboard HPF with electric bass, but with double bass I'm using an AKG C411 contact mic, so I use the 80Hz highpass on my ART mic preamp which I think is a simple 6db/Oct type.

As I understand it, at least two of the Crazy8 makers are recommending HPF's. What I don't know is how close my design is to a Crazy8. I had a long conversation with Greenboy, who told me that getting it right with that driver would take a lot of effort, and I felt like I reached the point where it was good enough for my use but not good enough to call it a Crazy8. I also felt like I owe the guys who are making those cabs, not to disclose design info that's been shared with me.

With the preamp, it's fine. Mind you, as I mentioned, I get an employee discount, plus I feel that I should get as much gig time as possible out of my preamps in order to be on the lookout for any possible problems or areas of improvement.

I measured the response curve of the MB200, and here are my official "flat" settings:

Treble = 10:00
Hi Mid = 2:00
Lo Mid = 1:00
Bass = 10:00
Contour = Off

I use the GK MB200 with a GK 112MBX for playing an electric upright and fretless in a duo/trio with an acoustic or archtop guitar. I do not need much power here and size and weight are very important (public transport). I found this to be the smallest and most light weight aplification that after some tweaking can deliver quite a true upright tone as a monitor with a PA or standalone for a small club (unlike the smaller Micromark and Minimark). Everything else I tried and liked was about twice as big and twice as heavy (the new GK MB150E/S are voiced too much for my taste (I had an old one which I liked, but was stolen). I would be carefull choosing it for a band with drums or a 30W crancked tube guitar amplifier.

I've used my GK200 through two cabs - my Bergantino 1x12 (8ohms) and my epifani 2x10 (8ohm).
With the Berg it sounds good and has enough power - not what i'd call "Plenty" of power - but enough.
Withe the Epifani it sounds good but seems a bit under-powered (big shock). Those epis are not terrible efficient.

The GK200 is a fine little head, but I wouldn't use it for anything more than a small gig with the cabs I own.

I use mine with (2) 210 cabinets vertical stacked for gigs- haven't had ANY power issues yet, if anything I may be a little too loud!

My cabs are a markbass traveler 210 (love the sound of it) and a SWR 210 Golight.

At home I practice thru the single markbass 210.

Why did you get rid of the Bag Ends? Did you find them to be redundant in light of the 210AVs?

... just too many cabs around here, and since I was fine with the 210AV's, and since they had tolex and were 1/2 the weight, they got the call to stay ... besides, the Baggies brought in more $$ which I badly needed at the time ... its like a zoo around here with all the animals, and NOT the place for rat fur cabs either ... I really liked the Baggies, and would consider them again in the future if situation arose, but you just need to draw a line in the sand at some point and start getting rid of stuff sometimes ... even the good stuff ;)

Thanks for the reply- I totally understand. I'm on the fence about trying the 210AVs as S15s have been my go to for years, but I'd like lighter cabs. Cat fur gets everywhere, so I know what you mean on that point too.

I've got a customer that uses an MB200 with an F112, until I heard it, I told him I didn't think it would be enough, but after playing through it I was quite impressed. I would think that it would pair well with all but the most inefficient cabs at reasonable volume unless you wanted to get every thing you could out of the cab.
