GK MB212 Ordered!

Woah, wait a sec. No clip light for the input????? :scowl:

I didn't realize this until now? I feel that this is a requirement on bass amps. So just set by ear? Crank it until I hear clipping? Hmmm, don't like that!

If you use a 9v bass, leave it at 0db. If 18v, set it to -10db. Turn knobs up until you have a volume you're happy with. Easy peasy.

I'm confused/concerned. Can you get a straight up flat tone out of this thing, sans distortion? Hrm.....

Hmm, mine does not have distortion? Slightly colored, warmish sound, yes, but distortion, no.

And mine does not have a lot of horn hiss like some MB210 users reported. It's there, but pretty faint. I guess that I got lucky (or a later revision of the head compared to MB210 users?).

Again, no distortion with mine. I would contact GK.

I'm realizing that my issue with these amps are the relatively modest features for the money. I know the main selling point is the light weight and high power, but the feature set is pretty spare. Quadzilla mentioned the lack of a clip light (which would have been an easy addition). I played one today and noticed that there's no mute function. I also really don't like the single top handle. I know it's easy to lift the combo with this handle but it's a bit awkward to carry it just by this handle.

I'm comparing these to the light weight Carvin combos. Here's the control panel of the neo 210 Carvin combo compared to the 210 GK combo - both of which cost about the same amount.

Well, I would not give up yet Yerf. Try another. As for the Carvin, I've read lack-luster reviews on the tone (it being a bit "thin" sounding with not much bottom and too clanky highs.

PLus Carvin only makes 1x15 and 2x10 options. I prefer a 2x12 over both of the above... So all that said, I think that I'll be keeping the GK.

I wondered about the tone question. All the features in the world can't make up for tone that is lacking.

How does the 212 sound with a 4-string? Too boomy? Is the sound tighter than a 115?

Do these amps seem well made? I don't want to spend $600 on something that isn't well made when I could buy a better made used amp, even if it's heavier.

What's the warranty like on these?

1 yr (as is the case with most amps). I bought a 3 yr "unlimited" warranty for $99.

It's so lightweight that it almost feels cheap. I do have to say that I just got done playing it for almost 2 hours straight and the tone is supurb (at least here at my house). Gig review after Sat eve.

GK warranty is 2 years on all products.
