Yes the MA6100 I think was the first transistor integraded amp McIntosh built. Surprisingly it's very close to my all tube Fisher.

yeah: weird how the fans come on when not in use, versus when you're playing.
I called Jason at GK about that, and he explained just what KJung said, in big technical words I don't remember
Seems I'm not the only one concerned about the fan.

I wouldn't say I was "concerned," as in "I wonder if something's wrong,"
just curious as to why it didn't act like "what I was used to."
Mr Gallien's a pretty smart guy, I've talked to him at length a couple times.

The most 'in your face' example of this was the original Clarus amps, which were relatively early in the small amp/class D development cycle 20 years or so ago. No fan in them at all. But, they would get warm on break, and then actually cool off as you played a bit! If you really pushed them, they would warm up again, since the case was very small, and the wattage output was relatively high (Walter Woods takes care of this with a large finned heat sink, which of course adds a lot more size and weight than the nice micro fans available now).
My most unusual experience with fan cooling was when I turned on my big lead sled HeartRock for the first time. Amazing engineering on that one. The fan was totally heat driven (infinitely variable, it seemed, from off to 'jet engine'). When you first turned the amp on, it does a 'systems check', which involved running the fan at full speed for a few seconds. Sounded like a 747 taking off in a small, quiet room! Scared the heck out of me the first time I turned it on.

I don't claim to be strong in class D PWM theory but what I gleaned from ageghorse and BbbyBld's discussion on a thread not long ago both sets of output devices are in an on state (modulated by the switching frequency) with no signal (both devices being on at the same time destructive so timing is critical). Controlling the off width modulation causes the overtaking of the device that is on (mirror image at the output). Filters at the output null the switching noise.

My first Fusion 800 had a DI high freq problem. GK was wonderful and got out a new one in minutes Very good CS.. My new one will be here tomorrow..
So, I had a chance to play through my cab for the past few nights.
Some initial thoughts (all IMHO):
1. Um, WOW!, this thing has some serious headroom.
2. Love the grindy tone when pushing the gain up
3. Pretty powerful EQ section
4. Very cool form factor, simple layout and some cool looking lights
5. Very versatile and authoritative - I could use this for all of my gigs (R&B, rock/alt, Jazz, Latin, electronica, solo bass)
I'm using this thought an older (97) Eden 410XLT 8 ohm cab...very punchy. Engaging the deep switch gets a rounder tone but not too wooly. I'd love to hear it though a 2x12 or 15 cab, so I'm on the lookout for one now. I'm really loving this head....and it's soooo light!
I've got a full band rehearsal tonight (drums, percussion, guitar, keys, horns) for a private gig this Saturday, so I'll report back how it sits in a band mix.

I have one. With the CN212, it sounds bitchen. It will blow your WT-400 out of the water volume-wise. (The WT-400 is still a great amp, though.) The MB Fusion 800 sounds a lot like the MB800, only a little creamier. The lit knobs light up. Bass San Diego has a couple in stock.
I have had mine for about a week and been running in my house. It is a ball buster. I can barely crank it up. I hope it's not going to be to much. I'm using it with the cn212. I have a gig Friday night in a new club so I'm not familiar with the acoustics and have nothing to compare it too.. So it's going to be interesting.

Another weekend of gigs with the GK MG Fusion 800 under my belt with a single Baer ML112 cab.
Color me .....HAPPPY! ..VERY!
I am dialed in. Set the Low and Hi mid knobs to 1 o'clock, Bass at noon, Treble at 10 o'clock. Input gain around 10 O'clock to 11 o'clock and Master to set overall volume. (Contour off)
My band mate tonight complimented how clear my bass tone was and how it blended so wonderfully in the mix. He could hear every note. So could I! TONE CITY. I put a fresh set of DR Lo-Rider Stainles steel strings on my Nordy VJ5C. Everything came to life! OMG, the tone is just AMAZING. Growls, punches, clarity ...All there. i love the slightly deeper low end that the GK MBF800 has versus the Orange BT500. The Orange is a bit more old school and just a bit more 'rock' ...although I can funk it up big time and never disappoints. But I am really enjoying the user friendliness of the MB Fusion 800.
Those Iluminated knobs and illuminated power switch on the MBF 800 are wonderful! They are extremely gig friendly giving a quick visual reference. And the Mute switch illuminates in a red ring around the switch when engaged. NICE!
Love that the amp has Tuner out, DI Out, DI Ground lift, Pre-post DI switch, ...tons of power, what else? Great tone, Headroom, Powerful, tight B String performance. ....What is NOT to love? Sounds great, easy to carry, loaded with features. Dang!
Now the question will be whether I play the Orange anymore ..and it really was working wonderfully. So it's not a bad amp.
