New species are being discovered all the time; species become extinct and new ones appear. Rainforests come and go as well; there used to be rainforests in the far north, according to the fossil record. They're not there anymore; the world hasn't ended.

The point is that the world is in a constant state of change. People try to attribute everything to humans... it MUST be our fault, look how important we are!... when, like I said, our actual footprint on this earth is miniscule and fleeting. Natural cycles and random occurrances happen. You can't blame everything on humans.

Unlike most people, I think about and research anything before I accept it, instead of blindly accepting the propaganda.

Funny thing.

People who believe in God, the Bible, and the immutable truth therein are often mocked by those who say there is no absolute truth.

Then, people who refuse to accept the current scientific theory of the day (without question) as absolute truth and fact are mocked... often by the same people... even when theories admittedly change and could change TOMORROW due to something else being discovered; we're supposed to just accept it as fact because it's the "best explanation we have at the time."

Actually, upon reflection, I guess this fits the "flexible truth" paradigm.

Just an interesting observation.

Global warming does not necessarily make all places on Earth hotter. Global warming does not cause, for instance, hurricanes. It causes *erratic weather*. It may be causing hurricanes, et al, to be more intense, more powerful. It causes weather patterns to change in erratic ways. Rain falls where it ordinarily would not, and in places where seasonal rain would be expected, none falls.

Most reputable global warming research I've read indicates that, over time, weather is projected to become more intense/erratic. This makes sense. As water and air heat, globally, this effects our weather patterns, which are directly influenced by water temperatures. Our big ocean currents change their paths according to how hot or cool they are. Too great a change in water temperature and currents will effect weather accordingly.

I typically see it referred to as Climate Change rather than global warming in most scientific literature I read. You're right though, the basic premise is: add more free energy and see the fluctuations increase.

Yes...Climate Change is, really, more apt. A few degrees hotter *or* cooler, globally, changes the weather patterns.

And, you know, if large numbers of people would make relatively small lifestyle changes, I think it would minimize human impact in a noticeable way. People get alarmed and think they have to give up their entire way of life, but they really don't. Walk more often...drive less. Seek out efficient means of transportation, heating, and cooling. Recycle.

Yeah, I know...if I hold my breath for that, I may pass out.

The Earth has always had these kinds of temperature fluctuations. We just need to minimize our impact.

Cherie, good post about global climate change, some folks just can't see that an overall increase in energy in a closed system, for whatever reason, will cause chaotic and sometimes SEEMINGLY CONTRADICTORY responses.

Gard, again I don't ague with that. But my question is this, Is EVERY climactic "event" that is newsworthy caused by global warming? And the follow up is always how it's going to get worse next season. When it doesn't these scientific spokespersons are NEVER questioned. The winter of 2004 was one of the snowiest and coldest on record in northern MI. they never dealt with that one. It's always breaking a record SOMEWHERE, but that proves zilch. The long term medians are very convincing and worth action. But this short term stuff is just media fear mongering. EVERY climactic event is followed by some news story saying how it was caused by global warming. To me it hurts the credibility of the argument.
