Something Borderline Offensive
With all due respect ,who said anything about "disparity of wealth"? I said it more in terms of an elite class that is entitled to use energy at their will as they would be considered anointed due to their enlightened message, whilst others could be subjected to either excessive taxation or social harassment for not cutting their usage back to what has been prescribed for them.
a) People already are subject to limitations for the common good in everything from vehicle laws to public intoxication. I don't see how making laws to ensure that all of us are able to continue having a consistent temperature is anything far beyond that. And that's exactly my point. We could end up having a future society where everyday people are told what they can and what they can't do individually with regard to energy usage. Meanwhile the elites would continue to do as they please.
b) Disparity of access to carbon footprint (which isn't far removed from disparity of wealth IMO) is something we should focus on as well. Cap and trade is a way of doing so. Let the ambassadors of green technology buy their carbon credits and pay for the common good.
