Gnomeratron VTF - a nasty muff with blend: prototype review

Yours is SUPER close. It was actually used for the first picture of the photoblog since I skipped a step before thinking about it.

It's hard to say how many I make a day, since I do different processes each day, but no less than 1 will be finished every day (for the most part).

Imma send out another mass PM pretty soon with some more details for you lovely people. :bassist:

MINE ARRIVED!!!!!!!

So, I haven't had time to do a rigorous run-through (that will take a while... soooooooo many switches! sooooooooo many knobs!), but I did record some quick & dirty (aka sloppy) riffs on random settings. There are so many more sounds in here, though, it's ridonkulous.

I gotta get photos of these too. They're pretty. Cool thing is, the epoxy finish is thick, and light goes through it really well. Which means, in dim lighting, there's a glow to the whole pedal. There's also some tiny bubbles in the epoxy that glow like shiny glitter. Except less effeminate. (Not that there's anything wrong with that-- there -is- a pink one!)

I've not had any luck capturing them, unfortunately. I'll need to improvise some camera settings.

Anyways, there's only 5 spots left in the first run (goes to 25). I'm considering taking a break after that to design something new (Spoiler alert: it's not gonna dirt).

I'm totally diggin' it! There are HUGE TOANZ lurking in this box, and some really weird ones to boot. Basically, if you like fuzz, chances are good you'll love this pedal. And the clean blend is really sweet. It's really cool to have it along with the batsh1t-crazy squealy settings - almost like you've got pinch harmonics overlaying your regular signal. It's also really interesting to hear how the signal changes as you move up the neck - almost every fuzz reacts differently to different pitches, obvs, but on some settings it's really amazing how responsive to that this thing can be. And chords! Some of these settings handle chords amazingly well!

I would say that yes, I definitely like it like I liked the proto... ONLY MORESO!

As for the next secret pedal tease... le sigh. Oh well. I'll wait. Guess I'll just have to keep plumbing the depths of this one!

I have to make an update to the diodes: Ge in the first stage is actually way useful. With a Ge/Schottky setup, it makes a really cool distortion sound. Super clear, tons of low end. It's a bit dark for my taste with a dual Ge setup, but still way cool.

Also, Schottky isn't as close to Ge as I originally said. Trying it in different setups, it makes a huge difference.

I just sent my deposit, and will begin to practice patience. I really enjoy the clips I've heard. In some small way it reminds me of a less f**ked up Noise box. Which I am greatly looking forward to playing with.

Thats a great assement of that clip. A way more usable and musical noisebox. I"M SO FREAKING PUMPED!

Exciting! Shocking! Cross-posted from I Love Fuzz!

Today while my son was napping, I caught a little time to do a drone track using my EHX freeze and the Gnomeratron. :hyper:

What would six tracks of bass (two low, two mid, two high) sound like through the VTF, you ask? Conveniently enough, I have an answer: something like this!

Signal chain goes Fender Jazz Bass > EHX Freeze > Gnomeratron VTF > M-Audio FastTrack Pro > Garageband. In this recording, I start with one of the low E's, kick on the Gnomeratron, and then fade the other tracks in one at a time after (using Garageband's volume automation). Variations in tone were created by slowly turning the gain, gate and tone knobs on the VTF. Each track had a different diode & octave setting (though, of course, I didn't write anything down). You can get some CRAZY resonant filter settings with the interaction between the gate & tone knobs.
