This Club seems to collect Godin basses owners... so here comes my old SD4, I love this basic, strong and efficient instrument

I have a question that is not really Godin specific, but here goes anyway: how well do fretless basses work with midi output? I was thinking about getting an A4 fretless for a jazz feel without carrying my DB everywhere, but I wanted to make sure that if I ever got a synth like Roland VR55 or did a direct plugin to my audio box for recording that the fretlessness wouldn't cause any sort of weird glitching or sound artifacts.

Maybe call/email Godin. Tell them about our thread too... They might be interested, or already know about it.

Price wise a SD4 would cost a fraction of a Fender
On the build quality side no problem to handle the comparison with a MIM and to some extend with a MIA
On the other hand the mics will not be at the same level than a MIA

So a great idea would be a SD4 with a change of the PB mic either with a genuine Fender or a Seymour Duncan Antiquity or something this range.

My 2 cents

Here are my Godin BG-IV twins

One stock with EMG's, the other with Fred Hammon DS-2 Dark Stars and a Noll 2 band preamp

I've worn them both out. Black one has a slight twist in the neck, which would make a fret
job tough, and Blue one truss rod maxed out in this Tucson crazy humid monsoon.

Sure wish someone out there in Godin land could point me to a replacement neck :-)

I had an Acoustibass Fretless up until I traded for my Shuttle 6.2 Combo.

I found a Freeway 5 on CL recently but can't get the owner to return emails. Anyone got any experience with the USA Freeway 5? If its mostly doggy I won't waste my time persueing this one, buy hey, its dirt cheap.

Might be more expensive than you want to put in it, but maybe check with Godin? Could be they'd have a couple lying around even though the BG series has been replaced.

I've often wondered if Godin necks were interchangeable between series... the necks on both my SD-5 and A-5 look identical.

Best bet is catch one for sale cheap on here. Good luck and happy hunting! :cool:

Thanks guys, I picked up a sd4 in great condition and once I set up the neck and pup's it really plays great. I was looking for a P bass without the cost and this did it. I have both a MIM Jazz and an American Standard Jazz and this SD comes close to the American P bass I was looking at without the cost.

Thanks for the advice.

I have a Freeway 5. I interchange my A5 fretless neck occasionally, when I need a solid body fretless (The A5 howls too much at stage volume). It is a well made instrument. I think I paid $300 for mine on eBay 5 years ago. The only issue I have is the Jazz pickup hums when used by itself.

I swapped the A5 with my Freeway 5. They are interchangeable!

Hello Godin Club - Well... I think I have a bass beyond my current need that I will be parting was with. My A5 Ultra. I have it listed in the classifieds section. At some point, I will get a standard A5 to soothe that need. I have taken it out the house maybe 6 - 10 times since Feb, smoke free church, usually for 1 song - It still looks brand new.

I have a Godin Starburst finish (hard to find these days) Shifter 4 that I would like to sell. It's in excellent shape and only been played a couple of times because when I received it my wife bought me a bass as a present at the same time and it's my third bass and I don't even know how to play well. I know all of you here are familiar with Godin quality, it came from Sweetwater for $1095 and I had it set up at The Fretted Frog (receipt in the gig bag). There are no scratches, no blemishes and it's good as new and it includes the gig bag. Please check out the photos and let me know if you're interested. I am Los Angeles. It's a great solid bass, the neck is excellent and the Shifter means you can play with 6 different preset sounds.

Hey Godin players! Dumb question here...

I've had an A4 Ultra Fretless for about a year and I'm changing the strings for the first time. What's the deal with these bridge pins - keeping them in? I took out the ones for the G and D strings and was starting to install a new G string, but I can't for the life of me get the pin to stay in! Is there a trick to this? I don't want to force it or break it.

Help!?!
