Godin Club

They can be tricky.

Pay attention to the orientation of the slots cut in the pins. These are to give relief for the string. Take pains to put the same pin back in place on each string as well. Use the pin to press the new string into place, rather than pushing the new string into the bridge further than necessary, pushing the pin in, then pulling the slack out.

This'll sound crazy too - but moistening the wood pins will swell them slightly... maybe just enough to bind in place.

Pops used to tell me - "you wadn't holdin' yo' mowf right." ;)

Thanks for the feedback. After some trial and error this morning, I managed to get everything to stay put. It sure seems like a poor system for securing the strings. I understand the use of pins for nylon string guitars, etc. But with strings this heavy and with this much tension, it seems hazardous at best. :-/

BTW, I put in GHS black tape wound strings on my A4 Ultra fretless, and I'm very close to the upright sound I was shooting for. I do several pit orchestra gigs each year and some of them call for acoustic (upright) as well as electric. So the A4 covers that when needed.

It's not the greatest design ever contrived for sure, but like with most things there's a learning curve. Once you figure out the trick to it, no sweat.

I recently sold my A-5... and sorta' miss it already. So many basses, so little time. I'm hoping it'll get played more with someone else. It was jusr too good of an instrument to be my 4th in line.

Hey everyone, I've got a surplus on my hands and I'm selling a Godin Starburst Shifter 4 that's been used a few times only. It's in great shape but I have 2 other basses. Selling it for $500 with the gig bag. There's pictures on the for sale site here on TB. Feel free to contact me for more info.

I wish I could.... I love my Godin A5 Ultra...

Wow.. No Godin love? I've been trying to sell my A5 Ultra fretted bass since September/October last year. I can't find any takers and currenly have it listed for $825 - What gives? Are the regular A5s popular and the Ultras unpopular?
ACE!!!! Why are you getting rid of it??? I have the fretless version of it and WOW... Maybe you'd consider making it fretless to give it new life in your hands??

What's up Willy!!! I have another, much cheaper, Acoustic Electric, which serves me well, especially since their playing times are very limited. I am currently about 3 basses overboard, that I need to move, that one being one of them, as you have probably seen on FB, there is a new Devon Jazz 5 in the stable, so the heat is on to move some items that I have been slow to move.

Well... It's definitely not on the list for me... My last Godin is called "The Homewrecker" cause it caused me much... MUCH!!! strife in my marriage... :) Basses are definitely the "hurt point"...

BUT That said, Gents in the Godin club!! I can attest to this mans character! Great guy! Takes care of his gear... You won't be disappointed if you buy from him... :)

My Godins. Both are 2001 models...

I bought the bass used in 2002 for $250. Replaced the stock pickups with an active EMG P/J set and threw some jazz knobs on it. It became my main gigging bass for the following 5 years. It's got some bumps and bruises, but it still sounds awesome and plays like butter. It's easily worth 3 times what I paid for it. The guitar was a random ebay score a few years back. I paid $175 shipped for it. All it needed was a restring and clean up. Again, worth far more than I paid. Anyone I've ever let play them comments on the stellar build quality and tone. Great instruments.

O wow! A Godin club!
I just joined TB because I am building a fEARFUL 15/6/1 for my babies below!
I owned a Godin A4 fretted bass but traded it in for a Godin Kingpin2 (insert sad face modicon!)
I see the newer A4 has a added pickup. I want it!
I strung my A4 with tapewounds and loved the sound.'I used my Roland GI-20 interface to drive my Rolanbd GR-33 synth because it has a design inside to accept the lower bass register.
If anything, I think Godin kinda falls down on the job when it comes to helping musicians discover all the things that pitch to midi can do.
It was good to see Carvin also offers a bass with the chambered body.

Hi all, just picked up this past weekend a Shifter Classic in Black Burst with a rosewood finger board. Sweet, think I am falling in love...
Anyway, quick question on strings, it came with rounds, which I am not a big fan of. I have black tapes on my Jag, and chromes on my Gretsch. Was thinking of the black tapes for the Shifter, which would look real nice, but would that not be real close to the Jag (passive P/J with tapes thing). The Shifter is way different sound wise than the Gretsch (humbuckers and all) so was also wondering about chromes. I like a bit of a different sound from each of my bass, any ideas or experiences anyone? And if NoNoise could send me a number, that would be great. Pics to follow, been to busy playing it to take any so far!

Congrats, GoLeafsGo!!
