Oh, and a follow-up question; what are people finding in terms of the balance/neck dive on Shifter or Shifter Classic models? I've seen at least one review on the shifters saying they tend to dive. Been thinking about getting one, of either model, but there aren't any around here to try out in person, and I'm pretty neck-dive-phobic.

My Shifter Classic 4 doesn't dive at all and it is the lightest of my full scale basses.

New A5 Ultra Fretless arrived today. Picked up at set of La Bella Deep Talkin nylon tape wounds but haven't put them on yet. Loving it so far, only negative is it's too long to fit in my dual bass gig bag. If I can find a good bag, looks like my go-to duo may end up pure Canadian...

A question for BG owners : I bought a used BG-V at a very good price (250 CAD) but after playing it for a while, I found it to be very "nasal", thin sounding, lacking bottom and warmth.

It's one of the older ones, with the stacked bass/high control.

Any idea what might improve this ?

Does it have the SD or EMG pickups?

I had both at one point, I liked the one with SD pups more, but I didn't find either of mine to be nasally. That being said, I'm going to upgrade my BGV to Aguilar pups and pre soon (already have the pre and just need to buy the pups and have them installed). :D

So, I'm not sure if this club is still active but, I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I just acquired a Godin SD-4 and my first impression are that I like it, especially for what I paid for it (pics to follow when I get a chance).

I do have a couple of questions though, does anyone know of where I might find the specs? The serial number seems to indicate it's a '98-'99 model year. I'm curious to know what the body wood is.

So, I have a question for those playing Godin Shifter Classic Basses. In looking at the description it looks like Godin moved away from using Maple to Basswood. It's my understanding that Basswood is not a bad tone wood but, does catch some criticism since it's a soft wood. So, I'm wondering if some of you who have them could comment on the tone, sustain, and durability of the body. I'm not concerned with weight although, I would expect that Basswood would be lighter.

My Shifter Classic is quite heavy, even with a big ugly empty rout under the pickguard, so I am not sure about the lighter bit, but all woods vary in weight. The tone is great (all of them!) and has great sustain. Not sure about the durability, I try and take care of my basses, but so far so good...knock (bass)wood....

I hate to say it, but I'm selling my BG-5... I just don't need a 5-string bass anymore. It's been several years since I needed one, but I've hung onto this, because I love the bass so much. However, I have kids that need food and stuff more than I need a bass I don't play. :P

So, in case anyone is interested... For Sale - Godin BGV BG5 (with Aguilar pickups & electronics)

An A4 is still in my future, though...

Sorry to ruin your list but number 83 can be reissued as i sold my Godin late last year. It was a difficult decision as i loved it as a bass but since getting both my Franken basses sorted the poor Godin never got played. On the bright side i bought it for $394 (with a stand, strap and lead) and sold it for $725 without the accessories. :bassist::hyper:

Nice A5! I really want an A4... :D

Hi, all. First time owner of a Godin, an old Acoustibass from the early '90s. Mine does NOT have any bridge pins in it, the strings are secured by simply fitting through a slot in the bridge holes that, I assume, anchor to the underside of the top. I've looked at a lot of pictures of the Acoustibass and 50% have pins while the other 50% don't. Does anyone here know if these originally had bridge pins or not? If they did, would you happen to know the diameter of them?

Thanks to anyone who can help.
