Godin Club

Hi, all. First time owner of a Godin, an old Acoustibass from the early '90s. Mine does NOT have any bridge pins in it, the strings are secured by simply fitting through a slot in the bridge holes that, I assume, anchor to the underside of the top. I've looked at a lot of pictures of the Acoustibass and 50% have pins while the other 50% don't. Does anyone here know if these originally had bridge pins or not? If they did, would you happen to know the diameter of them?

Thanks to anyone who can help.View attachment 3049226
If you contact Godin they are very good when it comes to responding to questions and providing all the help they can. They would likely be able to tell you whether or not your bass should have the bridge pins or not.

I may try that, Franvarin, but I'm also looking into getting a replacement piezo transducer for her (just in case) and the general consensus here on TB and on the Godin forum is that Godin doesn't support this model anymore (obviously) and ignores inquiries about it. :(
I would recommend giving them a try. I have a Godin from the 90's and had some questions. They were very helpful in my case
What have you got to lose?

I haven't got anything to lose, franvarin. :) I sent them an email yesterday. I'd also like to pick up another piezo transducer if they still have one. This one works but the high G is only about 60% the volume of the other strings. We'll see what they say.

I've not got a reply from Godin. However, I did find an LR Baggs distributor called Blue Star Audio who does sell the LR Baggs AB4 piezo pickup for $100 shipped. It is, of course, blank stock and would have to be shaped to the curvature of the original saddle. The seller preferred that I just return the bass to him, which I did. No harm, no foul.

Sorry for the delay on updating this list...I didn't get any emails until the last comment, for some reason.

We're at 90!

Godin A5F Ultra owner right here! They make some great instruments! I met Robert’ at a guitar festival in 2014 performing with guitarist Alex Skolnick. Great guy, great products! He supplies parts to so many other well known makers, especially necks!

Oh my, another abandoned club. Self-numbering clubs don't work. This one ended at 4. I went through and assigned club numbers to everybody else who still has a Godin in their TB profile.

I adopted Fresnorich’s number since he sold his Godin. Fresnorich, buy another Godin and you can get your old number back!

I have been considering a Godin for sometime - chambered body preferably fretless. So I’m thinking an A4 or an A4 Ultra. I’d appreciate any input on whether the additional pu is preferable.

Also I have played what I believe is an earlier model - thinner and without the interface - and lighter - and without that black back I am not fond of.

Is that a prior discontinued model and how did it compare?

@keyofnight, I'm so jealous! I really want a fretted A4, but I can't afford it this year, if I'm being honest with myself. Hopefully next year. :p

It really is a nice instrument, and I'm enjoying it so far.

The "acoustic" part is convenient for practicing and really makes a difference when using the piezo pickups. The Lace Sensor is nice and growly, and the preamp is neither muddy nor noisy like a lot of other ones I've tried. I know this doesn't apply to you, but… the sleek/discrete lines at the top of the fingerboard are a nice touch too.

I hope you get the money for one someday. I think it's definitely worth the cash. ;)
