Godin Club

I bought a Godin "Freeway 5" dirt cheap because it had a bad truss rod. One of the few that is replaceable in the field. Great bass, but I came down with GAS and sold it, after I had replaced the truss rod myself. Asymmetrical neck, too. The guy I sold it to is still playin' the you know what out of it. I think all their stuff is top drawer.

So I scored a Godin Freeway 4 in a trade. Truth be told it was a package deal and I wanted the amp more than the bass... but I knew it was a good deal so I did it. I've never held one before, let alone looked at one close enough to evaluate build quality, but I have to give credit to my fellow Canadians and say these are very well made basses. Fit and finish is fantastic and playing with if for an hour, I can see why people like them.

I'll play with it for a little while, jam this weekend and see if it becomes a more permanent part of the stable, but I'm wondering what it would go for if I decided to list on the classifieds (I'm a supporting member and can ask...)? It's metallic black and in immaculate condition - I doubt it left the guy's house - with a real nice Godin embroidered semi-hard gig bag. The only other listing my quick search pulled up was $375 shipped CONUS... anyone?

I decided to pass on the Acoustibass since it did not seem to be all original. But lately I have been giving the A4 fretless some consideration. I like to tune my basses CGDA with a C string that is in the 0.125 to 0.132 range. I'm guessing none of you A4 owners do this but do any of you see any obvious reason why the A4 could not use what amounts to a very heavy "E" string? I know that I will need to file out the nut just a bit but other than that, any obvious issues?

Ken

My first club on TB, so not exactly sure how this works.

I own a Godin Shifter 4 in creme/maple and a Shifter 5 in black/rosewood. Really like em both. 4 is strung with tapewounds and sounds kinda old school. Still getting used to the 5'er but loving it too.

Yes, a Godin club!

I have three Godin guitars, but no Godin basses though :( Still, I love Godin products. I think they are sadly under-appreciated. They build some great guitars for very decent prices.

In my city, Godin is quite rare and it baffles me, to be honest.

I have been strongly thinking about getting a Godin SD bass. I played one and was impressed by the tone and the amount of different sounds from the bass.

My Godin SD-4 was one of the very best-sounding basses I ever owned--right up there with my Pedullas, F-Bass, and Alembic. I still wish I hadn't sold it. Also had a Seagull acoustic guitar (it was OK), and still have an Art & Lutherie parlor guitar I just adore. I love the Godin company's range of offerings and commitment to quality and innovation.

I own a Shifter 4 in flame sunburst, a Richmond Belmont electric guitar (Richmond is a sub brand of Godin) and a Seagull 25th Anniversary flame maple EQ acoustic guitar. My take on Godin and their many sub brands is that they are good quality mid priced instruments that often play and sound like higher end stuff. And they're made in Canada/US so that's a plus.

Hi: Both 1997, the black one is stock EMG's, and for
some reason the wood is denser and the rosewood fretboard
rings a bit more, great bass, my goto Folk/Country bass

The second has Fred Hammon Dark Stars (Hagstrom Bisonic)
and is amazing, I can get it to sound like a Ricky 2001 or Phil
Lesh's EB bass. It has a Noll 2 band preamp with defeat, so
at high volume I can get it to feed back, while at low volume
pump up the bass (musically, of course)

I'm looking for a BG-V, and stories? How wide is the fretboard,
I need wide rather than skinny to adapt. I love the Sadowsky
width, does the BG-V compare?

Thanks

Beautiful! I have wanted Dark Stars for a long time. It seems like the 5-string versions were indefinitely postponed...

Anyway, I love my BG-V. I wasn't sure I could adjust to a 5-string until I played the Godin. The string spacing is pretty tight, but I don't slap, so it works well for me. I do a lot of chords, which this bass is great for. :)

had my A4 Ultra Fretted delivered yesterday. Still deciding whether its going to give me more than my P for a folk rock duo project i have on the go.

Could someone enlighten me to what the controls do as i can't find a manual on line

Thanks in advance

Here's my Shifter (photo from ebay where I bought it). I only took it out a couple times, got a few comments and questions about it, all positive.

Very nicely built bass with an interesting voice IMO. I didn't notice at first, but the finish is actually kinda trans-cream-burst. Good value, and nice to have something a little different. Might have to look for a companion fiver.
