^^^ I think you misunderstood. When SE don't want to use the DI off the back of the SVT-4 and what to use their cheap DI instead, I bring out my Radial J48 and use that instead.

I got what you meant man, I'm just saying if you'd prefer to use your 'pegs DI you should be a little more adamant with soundguys that you should. There's no reason I can think of that you should get to use your own DI unless it's a really bad quality one or something, I assume you'll have a send level on an amp in that price range so it's not like that's getting a good signals gonna cause a problem either.
Not to generalise soundguys too much, but alot of them seem to dislike having to explain why they do things, but obviously generalisations are stupid things to go by and there are plenty of decent soundguys that are helpful, so it's always worth chatting with them about stuff like this and seeing why they don't wanna use your DI. Unfortunately there are alot of clueless soundguys that even I could do a better job then, and with clueless soundguys they (generally!) seem to either be afraid of anything they aren't used to doing and there's no trying to convince them otherwise, or they're actually quite open to trying something out if you can explain to them why it will sound better for you, and more importantly how it's not gonna make them blow all of their/someone else's gear up if needs be.

So, let me get this straight. I'm currently wasting my time looking/saving up for a good lightweight cabinet for the 10 or so times I play out each year. All I need to do is bring my head w/built in DI and I'm set for the night?
Well it depends on your situation really, a few things you might wanna consider are;
1. Can you deal with no volume on stage?
2. Do you regard your amp as part of your instrument/do you want the sound of your amp coming through the PA
3. Has your head got a quality DI? Even if so do you even want the sound of your heads preamp through the PA?
4. Boring money/practicality stuff
You can always get yourself miced if you like the sound of your rig, you can get away with sticking a vocal mic infront of alot of cabs and it'll sound decent (if the mic and rig are any good of course).

heck no! unless you are fortunate enough to always play at a venue where they have a proffessional pa capable of reproducing the bass in the FOH and in the monitors so you and all the other musicians can hear you adequately.

Duh. OK- dumb question. We mostly play shows in clubs with in-house PAs, but that has not always been the case.
