Yep. Made in Waterloo Ontario, in the building right beside their World Headquarters. Actually it is several city blocks, the have a bunch of buildings. Also, they actually own the buildings and land, so a big plus on assets. Not to mention that this year for their christmas party, they rented an arena and had the foo fighters play a privet show for everyone that works for them. Invest in RIM, going nowhere but up.

If I answer that I'll (a) be violating the no-politics rule, and (b) be opening myself up to the exact same kind of reactionary abuse that I received during the attempted boycott. Let's just say we had reasons that we thought were valid at the time, but which I'm not currently interested in defending.

I think I will continue to buy the product that best suits my needs, regardless of where it is from. There is no reason to suppose that a product must be inferior because its from China or must be superior because its from "insert your favourite country here". To do so is just a form of prejudice (judging something merely because of its country of origin). If the product is good quality, at a reasonable price and suits my needs, I will buy it. Everyone needs to feed their family, regardless of what country they are from. The best product gets my business.

I think RIM's parts come from China. They just have enough local content to be legally branded "Made in Canada". I would not be surprised if most of the electronics were made in China (or Indonesia/Malaysia/insert Asian country that is not Japan here.)

GOOD LUCK!

It is going to be almost impossible. My friends and I tried a few months ago. The thing is, you don't realize how much stuff we get from there. Tons of food products contain all kinds ingredients from China. You can't go out to eat anymore. Especially, fast food. Chances are, more than 1/2 of you car is from China...even if it's an "American" car.

It's good to TRY to be more conscious about it, but nearly impossible to do.

Bullocks! What about cheap metalurgy( seen in car parts), what about lead paint?? Its not rasicm. You're taking a gamble when you buy certain things sourced from certain countries, and it has nothing to do with ethnicity and EVERYTHING to do wth business ethics and adequate regulation.

Thats the meterstick, not skin tone man.

I basically figure it's up to the US government to deal with other nations who are treating their workers badly or abusing economic regulations. No amount of feel good boycotting is even going to make a small dent in China's economy, or force their communist government to change.

Yes, I realize, that resigns us to no change, but I am not a person who pretends they can make a difference.

Don't worry, that's just the standard throw-down accusation in an attempt to intimidate those who don't agree with a position to not voice their opinions.

"Oh no, they said racist, I don't want to be called racist."

I know one thing I am not, I am not racist, but I don't like the trade situation with China, especially when combined with their political and human rights issues. I won't be intimidated with accusations of racism... it's like water off a duck's back to me.

There is a difference between "China" and the Chinese people.

I ran into this a lot in Cuba- I was worried that they would hate me for being an American, but they all very graciously assured me they were aware of the distinction between "America" and "Americans".
