Don't worry, that's just the standard throw-down accusation in an attempt to intimidate those who don't agree with a position to not voice their opinions.

I know one thing I am not, I am not racist, but I don't like the trade situation with China, especially when combined with their political and human rights issues. I won't be intimidated with accusations of racism... it's like water off a duck's back to me.

There is a difference between "China" and the Chinese people.

However, there are too many ignorant morons who can't see the distinction. For example, google "Vincent Chin". He was a Chinese American guy who was brutally beaten to death by a couple of racist thugs with baseball bats because "his people stole their jobs". This was during the Japanese car boom in the 80s when Detroit had to start laying off many of its auto workers.

The guy wasn't even Japanese.

Personally I prefer to look for a "Made In America" product first. Local to my region is even better. I simply prefer to support my neighborbood. I also would rather shop in a smaller local store than some big box conglomerate.

It's not always possible. I often spend a little more. But it's my choice.

hmmm I see it as a possibility but unlikely. We're freinds with China now and can simply refuse Chinese imports to weaken their economy if they ever become sort of threat. China needs particularly North America and Europe to survive, why because their exports rely on it, therefore making the country more prosperous.

Of course there always is the possibility but I don't think it could happen anytime soon.

This whole China-North Korea-Russia-Iran alliance to take over the world thought is neat to think about but unlikely.

Agreed. I do wonder why people seem to fear China becoming a super-power. Cultural colonialism perhaps? I doubt that though, because the US has already culturally colonized China plenty. Hence the obscene amounts of McDonald's and KFCs they have there, American movies and Hollywood soaked up like a sponge, Americans and American products (made in China, of course) appearing in television commercials, etc. Plus, the amount of white people-worshiping and girls wanting to marry the "rich, white American" for some cash and a visa. Hmmm..

If China’s development trajectory continues as planned, its increase in greenhouse gas emissions will likely exceed that of all industrialized countries combined over the next twenty-five years, surpassing by five times the reduction in such emissions that the Kyoto Protocol sought. In short, it’s a nightmarishly bad picture.

Does our economy need China that much? I don't think enough to strain us down, and think about it, if they decided to be a threat we would also stop out exports to China wouldn't we?

Besides the more the country developes the more the people gain knowledge. If China were ever to hit the point where they'd have the power to take over (or at least be a threat) I think the people of China wouldn't allow that move as they would be more individualistic. I mean war is expensive and destructive that rich Chinese business man is living fine why should his country go to war? So his business gets bombed and he loses everything? China is on a good streak right now as they keep getting stronger and they're people I think will soon realize the country is prosperous enough to support a democratic (or something along the lines of that) government. Once all those old bag politicians in they're head offices croak I think it will be smoother sailing for em.

My son has a chinese made dirt bike... holy crap I'll never rely on a Chinese car to get me to work. I've replaced half the stuff on there with home-fabbed stuff that I got from the hardware store!

Yeah. It takes them some time, but they are VERY good at making cheap copies. I haven't seen much in the way of innovations from there, but as their population becomes more prosperous and educated, who knows.

Anyone here noticing the return of a mercantilism in the world over the last several years? Interesting form of world economy. It was in vogue until about the middle of the 19th century and mostly declined away as the twentieth approached. More modern thinkers caught on. I'm not looking forward to the next ten years. Gonna get WAY bloodier and nasty. Remember the Bolivian government's selling of water rights, even the rainwater to Bechtel? That was nothing compared to what's on the way from global corporations getting better at running the world. I'm gonna go get me another of those South African Breweries Millers, kick back and slip back, into my comfortable de nile and drift with the current...........................long as I can.

Note that the US never signed the Kyoto protocol, and our emissions are just as high-volume as China's. The only thing keeping our emissions in check is education of the public, leading to people voting with their dollars!
