Good 4x10 bass cabinets?

T
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the 410 I use. It is DNA's DNS-410. It is the clearest, most articulate, and Loudest 410 I've ever found. I like the Eden sound a lot and this is from David Nordschow's (founder of Eden) new company DNA Amplification. It will handle 1400-watts rms and is amazingly sensitive (rated at [email protected] [1 watt @8ohms]). SPL's are always kind of iffy because they are typically measured at one frequency and we don't just play one frequency. However, I can tell you this sucker is LOUD.

I use an Eden WT500 that has been upgraded to 800 watts bridged at 8 ohms and I run it bridged into 8 ohms. Inside I can't run that amp with the master set above 9:30 or it will push people out of the room. I played an outside gig with it recently and was excited that I could actually turn it up. So I moved it up to 10:30. Then I had to move it down to 10 o'clock, and low and behold finally moved it back down to 9:30 at the club owner's request. And this was done with my amp and cab behind the stage and about a foot below it on the asphalt of the parking lot. The flared and textured shelf port was pointing underneath the stage and about a foot behind it.

This cab is super clear sounding and when I play bass chords on it, you can hear each individual note with no problem at all. I typically run my amp flat with a bit of a boost in the low-mids at ~250Hz. If you play it next to some other 410's that are good sounding 410's and then play through the DNS410, it sounds like you have removed a blanket off the sound when you play through the DNS410. Can't say enough good things about this. I believe the street price is still around $1,049 to $1,099, so it's not cheap. Took me a while to save up for it. It's been out since 2010 and I finally got mine in April of 2015.

Here's a video snip of us playing that outdoor gig and if you look closely you can see my amp and cab behind the stage (you can see the 10" speakers, but not the shelf port). This was about the third song in so I was still set at 10 o'clock and had to drop it to 9:30 after this song. This is a phone video taken by the owner of the pub, but there's no mistaking my bass in it...or the time I hit a G instead of a D in one spot (DANG!). I know all of you will hear that immediately. My only excuse is that I was singing this song at the same time and continued on as if it had never happened...

That bass is damn loud

Lots of really great cabs out these days. I run different cabs based on the band and venue I'm playing. I've found a 212 cab can cover a majority of small clubs, but adding a 410 really gives it more coverage at the same volume for bigger stages. There have been some great recommendations, current 410 cabs are very effiecent for the most part, it just depends on what flavor you enjoy.

No
Wont it blow my amp out if i use a 1000w cab on a 500w amp?
No, you could get your amp cranked pretty high though and depending on philosophy it might not be your ideal. (Driving at the engines limit for long periods) If your amp breaks up nice at volume it's perfect for getting to break up at a reasonable sound level. But really this cab is very sensitive and I don't think you'd find yourself diming it, even at 500w, unless your outdoors. I run my genzler 800 on it with the 2.67 ohm switched on to knock the power down a little. Massive amounts of headroom.

Where a cab, more likely a pair of cabs, can hurt your amp is in their ohm rating. Two 4 ohm cabs would drop the resistance to 2 ohms which most modern amps would be very unhappy about.

Another option, I like my Markbass 4x10 front ported, nice and loud and I add either another Markbass 2x10 or my SL112 if I need to move more air. Both of my Marks are the Italian made with the Neo's not the Chinese.

Another vote for the Genz-Benz Uber 410 if you can find one. I love mine. Another one that I used to have that was absolutely awesome was the Bag End Q10BX-D. Those two were the best 410's I've ever owned. One caveat: Both are pretty heavy. The Uber is 70 lbs., and the Bag End is a whopping 96 lbs. But boy do they sound good!!

I quite like the markbass aswell. And it's avaible at the local music store, maybe i'd consider buying this cab. Just a question, is it the 104HR or HF?

Hello,
I am looking for a good 4x10 bass cabinet that suits a vast variety of genres. I play in a local coverband and we play a mix of everything. But i'd say we mostly play jazzish to popish songs that have a lot of low end bass. For example Aint no mountain high enough by Marvin Gaye and Valerie by Amy Winehouse.
The cab needs to be 4x10 because of the settings we play in (mostly bars, small concert halls and backyard parties) and also because transporting a big cab is a pain in the a**.
Do you guys have any suggestions to which cab i should buy? Should i really be getting a 4x10 or is it better to go bigger and ignore the transport pains?
I'm willing to invest quite a bit into this rig so price isn't a big issue.
Thanks for the support ^^

I posted this on another thread:

1) Modular. 1000 watts per 2x10 Cab. Use 1 or 2 cabs.
2) If price "isn't a big issue" - GET THIS!
3) Ignore the previous toy-bass-amp suggestions! :woot:

ANY combination of Wayne Jones will BLOW away ANY of the aforementioned options.

Just sayin'... :woot:

If you seek the best of the best, aguilar either db410 or gs410. I opted for a db410 because it sits perfect in the mix for me.

But it isn’t lightweight. Quite the opposite in fact. If you want the best lightweight check bergantino/barefaced/vanderkley but all lightweights impose a tone compromise (to my experience). Your best bet to somewhat copy the aguilar character is vanderkley imo. Wonderful cabs. For best performance though, I trust my ears and go with the “good ol’ heavys” :)

212 cabinets for sure. Smaller, nice big sound, great volume. But if you must go 410, I'd definately do a modular stack. 2 210s instead of 1 410. That way, you have options. The TC Electronic cabinets are my favorite for sure, but ampeg's always tight and punchy. Mesa is amazing, and Hartke's kinda unique. Peavey can take a beating for cheap. All of those are great companies that make great products. My suggestion is to play through a few different ones with your own set up. Your bass, amp, and pedals. But if that's impossible for you, YouTube with some good headphones is an easy taste test. Just not by any means a solid substitute for trying things out in real life.

Epifani UL410

I've got a first generation, which you can find for $300-$500 all day long. It's pretty light and ridiculously loud. And it thumps pretty hard and moves a ton of air. It sounds great as well.

I run mine with several amps and it likes all of them.

What's fun is running mine with an Ashdown LB30 (30W tube head). That combination gets stupid loud. I have done a ton of gigs with a 30W head. :D

However, with a Mesa Walkabout.... :wideyed: I can kill small animals within a few feet of that cab.

SVT and Buster like my T310 just fine, power up to a GX5 + preamp never had the “oomph” the tube amps shovel out.
I’m missing a 10” so I’ll bow out now.
