Good Bye

I will be moving out to our new farm this summer, and my wife and I (and our new neighbors) will be restoring it, and creating a retreat to help people with all kinds of needs. A place for people to enjoy nature, astronomy, art, music, yoga, etc. where they can find some peace and harmony through something more uplifting than what they can find now. It's been a long time coming, from where we've been. We’ve helped so many people on a one-to-one basis for so long, that it is time to move somewhere where we can make a bigger difference in the world.

My wife and I are living a life of such love, peace, prosperity, kindness and goodwill, just by choosing to disassociate from the negativity that is so common today. We just chose to be happy, and everything we ever wanted is happening. Some here will say it’s all philosophical BS though, even though we are living proof it is true. Many people we know personally, say the same thing, yet wonder how we became so prosperous in such a short time (and no, we didn’t win the lottery…LOL).

I will be busy packing up our old house, moving, and getting back into my art. I will be leaving my job sometime this summer as well. No more computer work for me. I won't be at work (where I'm at right now) and we won't have internet access at our new home for quite a while (if ever), so I won't even have the ability to get on TB. Not that I will want it where I will be. I will be building a beautiful astronomy observatory on top of an old silo. I will have that big computerized telescope in the observatory I’ve always dreamed about. The night skies out there are stunningly beautiful. I will have my dream art studio and gallery in the renovated barn. So many exciting things to do. Not the least of which is continuing to help people who want to change their lives.

I will still be playing music, but I won't be on here too much longer. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone I've met on here, including those I've disagreed with (maybe even especially because of those I've disagreed with). Talkbass has been a very enlightening experience.

I started out here on TB by asking a lot of questions about gear, and also eventually answering questions about gear, but I don't really partake in that much as I don't need much in the way of gear anymore. Off Topic has been more interesting to me in the last year, if only because so many posted questions wanting help, or the posts were thought provoking.

Part of my reason for leaving TB though, has to do with so much negativity, anger, and hostility towards people who genuinely wanted to help, or be helped. Don't get me wrong, TB is very much the same cross-section of people I encounter in every day life. These days, I find most people to be so negative about life, be it on the news, or from co-workers, friends, family, acquaintances (and on TB). Either they are angry with someone else, or they are just unhappy with their life. Misery loves company as they say. Time for me to find new company to keep. ;)

If you ever look at my posts, you will find that when some people choose to disregard my opinions, they usually do it out of anger. Think about why this is. Of all people, I would think that artists (in this case, musicians) would be more open minded. Just browse through the list of topics and count how many threads are uplifting or positive in any way. OT is becoming a bitchfest, and a place for whiners and dare I say “realists” to drag people down by dwelling on the crap that is, instead of the beauty that is. The more you focus on the negative, the more you will bring it into your life. I really don’t need that in my life any longer. I seek out happiness and peace, and love. And so that is where I focus my attention.

There are quite a few TB’ers who I will miss. Forgive me if I don’t mention you. Maki and SoulGeezer, you guys have made it a lot of fun here lately. Keep those vultures circling for there will be plenty more to feed on. Cherie, keep your chin up. Life is all good if you want it to be. GreenBoy (and so many others), thanks for all your help and support in my custom bass and cab building. Vorago, thanks for lending an ear to a decidedly crazy astronomer. Major Metal, thanks for all the philosophical threads. Jive, thanks for the Packers/Bears banter. Disenchant, stay strong, you are undoubtedly the coolest woman ever to grace TB. Your outlook on life will find you in love and happiness.

I could go on and on, but there are too many to thank for sharing a little part of their lives with me here. Thanks.

I just want to share one thing with everyone here before I go...

Watch the movie, "Conversations with God", and then read the book, "The Law of Attraction" by Jerry and Esther Hicks.

It really is true. I know it because I’ve lived it and I am living it. I mean in a very real “I’ve won the life lottery, magical, mystical” way. It works.

Live your lives from a place of Love. Always. Everything comes from Love. Always. God is Love. Always.

Love everyone. They are you. We are ALL one.

Good-bye.

Love to all.

Wow, that sounds very...hippyish. Is hippyish even a proper adjective? :D

Seriously, it sounds like you are in a great place. I also agree with about making life happy. I feel very similar. I'm not exactly at the destination where I want to be, but I am on the path there, and I'm quite excited about it. I see so many people unhappy with life, and it's just sad. I'm pretty much happy with the direction that mine is going in. It sounds like you are, what Freud referred to as, thantatos, which is thd "death instinct," or to put it more literally, a return to simplicity in life. I can totally see why that would be appealing.

KUDOS to you!

Sounds like a noble cause. I wish you the best of luck and much happiness.

The negativity on TB really gets me down at times, but the positive aspects make up for it. It takes very little positive to overcome the negative for me.

Cheers!

You should give credit where it's due. Whatever effects you think are due to "The Law of Attraction" are only from your own efforts. The Law of Attraction does not exist in reality.

Sundogue, I'm glad you're in a happy place, but you really could have done without the sweeping generalizations. I certainly don't consider myself a close-minded unhappy bitchfest-loving whiner. How do THOSE words of yours not count as "negativity"? Oh well.

I wish you all the best as you move into the next chapter of your life! There IS a lot of peace and love to be found away from the negativity of the media and some people.

You will be missed, so I hope you feel like you can pop in once in a while to say "hi!"

Peace and love! :bassist:

LOL. Yes, we are moving to an area where all of our neighbors are more in line with our thinking and lifestyle. We jokingly refer to it as our "hippy commune". I told my wife I was going to let my hair grow out, wear it in a ponytail and let my beard grow 'til it hits the ground. LOL.

Being a wildlife artist, I have always been in tune with nature. The land we are moving to is beautiful, up high on a hill that overlooks the valleys below in all directions. We have a huge apple orchard, and yes we will also become farmers (on a small scale). We only eat organic foods, and so do our new neighbors.

I agree that returning to a simpler life is what we all need. Most of our troubles stem from living life at a faster pace than what is really good for us. Some prefer that and I understand it as I was at that place myself.

The problem with living life so frantically is that little is done deliberately and with purpose. What I'm finding in helping those who have "lost their way" and need help, is that they have gotten to the point where almost their entire existence is reactionary, where they live life by default. All of their experiences are just one reaction to other's actions after another until they have nothing left to give anymore. That's when they find themselves homeless, addicted to drugs, alcohol, etc. and some are even to the point of suicide. Life is to be lived happily, always.

Most are just going through the motions of life without any forethought or directions. The most common answer I get when I ask them why, is... "Because I have to." They feel they have to go to a job they hate, they have to get caught up in heavy traffic, they have to rush to meet deadlines, they have to "put up with" terrible bosses and co-workers, they have to pay their bills, they have to work so hard to pay them, and on and on, and on.

The truth is, no they don't have to. They choose to. Even when they tell me they have no choice, they are allowing the choice to be made for them, by default. And thus they are unhappy, stressed out and their life feels out of control. The longer they go through life this way, the more likely they will crash and burn, so to speak.

I am looking forward to getting completely out of that lifestyle. It's been set in motion for a couple of years now, but it is coming to be, and really with no effort on our part. So many people we know wonder how it is that we work less, and have so much more. I try to tell them, but they refuse to listen. They say the Law of Attraction is BS, yet somehow they are not prosperous nor happy, and we are. "If being unhappy, worried about your bills, working jobs you hate and living stressed out works for you, keep doing it", I tell them. I guess I would rather be wrong and happy, than right and unhappy.

Yes, the hippy lifestyle. We all know it didn't work in the sixties, right? But the truth is, Love is all you need. Everything worthwhile comes from a place of love.

Awareness of, and deliberate thought and attention to, negativity, are two completely different things.

I don't bury my head in the sand, or cover my ears go "la-la-la" to drown out negativity. I simply acknowledge it and let it go.

Reality is whatever you make it to be, and it is viewed through your unique perspective, always. You don't consider yourself to be a "close-minded unhappy bitchfest-loving whiner", and so, you are not. Some do, and they embrace it. My guess, is that they are not all that happy in life, or they would have nothing to complain about..

This can be so true .I hate to admit it but I am guilty of it myself and don't like it when I catch myself in that frame of mind.

It is contagious.

My mother is one of the happiest people I have ever known , she is always positive and has never been depressed or negative ( that I have ever seen) , IE always sees light at the end , the glass is half full etc...
My youngest daughter was blessed with this personality as well and she is pure joy to be around.
We have guys at work that are always bitching and grumbling about life .
I have found they can suck you up into it if you let it . It's like a cancer.

If you find the peace and joy in life I have seen is possible then hats off to you , when you've got it it is pure bliss.

Good luck and take care.
