good delay pedal for bass

I really like the Moog Minifooger delay I have. The drive knob is crucial for getting the delayed bass heard in a mix, big fan of that. Also the expression pedal feature takes it to a whole new level.

MF-Delay. If you like Analog delays, you owe it to yourself to try one of these out. Really amazing what they put in a pedal that size and price.
I also vote for the MF-Delay. Great sound for a great price.

I have been using the Tech 21 RVB boost pedal for a few years now and it works really well for me. I had also tried the Digitech previously. It features some reverb programs from lexicon. Although the Digitech was good, I preferred the Tech 21.

TC Flashback is a good starting (or finishing) point to find what YOU like in a delay. If you find you really dig the analog emulated sounds in it, try a truly analog delay like a Carbon Copy. If you like the tap (strum) tempo and sync features try something else with that. Strymon is big $$ but very cool. Or just use the flashback and be done, it's a totally pro little pedal. Personally, I sold mine and bought a Carbon Copy as that's the basic sound I really like, and I love that analog delay on the verge of oscillation sound sometimes, and occasionally making it go d--d--d--d-d-rdrrRREARRRRRKKKKKrrrrr...splat.

+1 on the Echo Puss on bass...I opened it up and messed with internal trimpots I shouldn't have touched, and now it gives me 750-800 ms of max delay time, and the feedback starts self-oscillating at a lower setting. Basically, I made it drop acid.

But the tone control is great for getting the most out of your top end and keeping the repeats clear, even as they degrade naturally. Or suppressing 'em for a Carbon Copy style dark wub..wub..wub.. cool in its own right. And for sustained sounds, the modulation is quite lush, and affects only the repeats.

Overall, I think the ultimate answer is that just about any delay pedal that sounds good on guitar will sound good on bass, taking into consideration the different registers.

With that said...one feature that would make the most sense, IMO, on a delay marketed for bass is a high-pass filter, preferably dialable, to generate repeats without mud while playing in the lower range. The Cathedral's Echo mode has something of the sort, the option to filter either low or high end progressively on successive repeats. I haven't actually messed with it much on bass yet, for which I have no excuse as the pedal is on the floor next to me as I type.

+1 on the Hardwire DL8; if you're not going to get too complicated but still want some variety and features. However, if you're only going to use delay a couple of times a night, and just simple repeats &/or slap back, check into the microscopic Hotone EKO, true bypass, digital, and won't take up much room on the pedalboard.

I used the Red Witch Titan for awhile and it was great. Now I am using the MXR Carbon Copy because it fits my tonal needs better. Have the delay set low and run it into a Danelectro Spring King with all controls maxed out. Gives my tone this beautiful, lush sound. Sits in the mix very well too. For the price the MXR CC can't be beat in my opinion.
