good delay pedal for bass

TC Electronic Nova Repeater. Sounds great, plenty of useful options, easy to use and has tap tempo. If it doesn't have a dedicated tap tempo - it's useless to me. The only delay I'd consider replacing my repeater is el capistan, but then I wouldn't have the option of using the cool combo of reverse repeats + drykill + cranked repeat volume which gives me awesome synth like swells combined with fuzz (and octaver).

what delay pedals are you using?

I've been using a boss dd-3 lately. It's small and simple. Has a good punchy sound. And I like that it runs silently with my one spot. I gave it a shot after noticing a couple of my favorite bassist that use delay had them on their boards and it's stuck around.

I was using a line 6 m5 before it, and I did like the m5 for delay and other effects. But it was overkill in a lot of ways. I'd did all the extra stuff some people like in a delay. you could make presets for different delays in different songs, it had tap tempo and a big variety of delays. On the downside it's a much higher drawing pedal and it takes up more room on the board. I found the ability to make multiple presets of delay a bit overrated unless your drummer is playing to a click and the tempo for each song is always going to be exactly the same and I didn't have much luck with the tap tempo. More often than not Id try to adjust the tempo and just make farther off. On the dd-3 i have a generic delay setting and then occasionally at the end of a show I'll switch it into hold mode for some knob turning chaos.

I just switched to a Digitech Hardwire DL8 from the EHX Memory Man and it's like a whole new world. I love it! I also subsequently discovered that the Memory Man was to blame for the noise issues I was having. I'm not sure if that's a common thing or something was wrong with the pedal (or maybe I had a particular setting too high?).

Lot of analog delay choices given here. Be very wary of analog delay for bass. It sounds great when noodling in your bedroom alone with headphones, but those dark repeats get absolutely obliterated live. Much better to go with the cleanest Digital delay pedal you can.

Also, for the love of god, please stay away from modulated delays!! I have never heard one track where that feature was used musically. For my $, the Keeley Recino is looking like a real winner.

Is that referring to the pedals I mentioned by chance?

I use the Boss DD-5, and it is terrific. 11 different modes (possibly overkill), and the delay sounds on bass are tremendous. They're discontinued, but can be easily found for not a lot of $s. Best delay pedal I've owned, and I've owned a ton (pedal junkie).

I often use any kind of modulation with delay and delay with modulation. as i can hear - it is musically enough.

I don't know since I don't know which one you mentioned. If it was analog, then yes, although my comment was not meant to be directed at anyone personally.

THE DL8 has different presets, digital, analog, modulation, tape, slap and uh... tap tempo. I prefer the analog setting, but to me it sounds very defined. The Memory Man had a lot of hiss and felt muddy, less overt.

I really like TC delay pedals. I'm currently using a Nova Delay, but I've used the Nova Repeater, Flashback, and Flashback X4 in the past. The tape to digital knob is awesome - the digital delays are super clean, but you can also dial in a little "analog" without the delays getting muddy. But, what I really like the most is the dedicated tap tempo that allows you to tap the tempo in before you engage the pedal.
