Good drum or metronome apps

I'm a fan of an app called Pro Metronome

And for and endless, but not free, array of high quality drum loops I'm a huge fan of DrumGenius

I would personally advise against it, as there has been on issue driving me nuts with it. Whenever the bottom number of the time signature is changed (i.e. 7/4 ---> 7/8) the clicks are exactly the same. Basically any time signature you set is x/4.
However, my brother who uses the same app didn't seem to experience the issue, it might just (somehow) be an issue on my end, rather than with the app in general. Although if it worked properly for me, I'd be willing to pay for the extra features because it does seem to be a well put together app for the remaining part.

I much prefer to run music applications on my (mac) desktop. Is there a really good software metronome/drum machine that can easily do odd times, alternate played and dropped bars (for groove training), etc. that works on a desktop mac?

I have and use Logic, which can do anything, but I really want something that takes 5 seconds to set up a practice session, without all the baggage of something like Logic.

I've been using the free Metronome Beats for my android, and am quite happy with it.

This is the one I use and like you, I'm happy with it. Does what I need to do. The pro (paid) version is way more versatile, but the free one can keep time. I like the feature that Smeet mentioned where you can alternate playing and muting bars. Really helps set your internal groove clock.

I use Metronomics HD on my Macbook, but make sure it does all that you want.

I recommend trying a BPM meter instead of (or in addition to) a metronome. I use one called livebpm for the phone. I find it to be more helpful that a metronome in building an internal sense of time. it also allows you to see when you rush or drag and after a bit you start to see patterns in when/why it happens which helps in correcting it. Im' also a drummer and I use it often when practicing with groups. very useful tool.
