Not sure if you'd call "Hancock" a good movie per se, but it made me laugh like an idiot at times. The ending must've been one of the biggest cop outs I've ever seen, though. The fact that they tried to inject depth into the movie near the ending and eventually failed to do so didn't really help, either. But of course it wouldn't have been family friendly enough if Hancock and Mary had really died, but oh well it's essentially a "feel good" movie so why am I complaining?

good movies; bad endings

yea i'd say that hancock is like 1st half good and 2nd half bad. once they started the whole charlize theron bit it was lamesauce.
23 with Jim Carrey. It wasn't that great, but it was moving along okay. Then there's a couple of scenes right at the climax I think the director's 10 year-old directed.....just awful.....:scowl:
The original version of The Hills Have Eyes... It just suddenly ends as if they ran out of budget or something.
The remake definitely more than makes up for it though, and is one of the few instances where a remake surpasses the original.

Dead Air is one movie that started out great, was really suspenseful and tense, but toward the end it got preachy and predictable and very rushed.
War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise - lame ending

My two least favorite endings:
"Monty Python & The Holy Grail" - thought it was a letdown...like they ran out of ideas. (I know this was mentioned earlier)
"Valdez is Coming" - enjoyable 1971 Western that ends with the good & bad guy staring at each other but never shows the showdown. VERY 1970's way to end a movie.

This may be the one I was thinking of, but I'm not sure, because looking back I really like it.
This I have to disagree with. Spoilers in green.
It was a monster movie. I know that the idea originally was that maybe a person could be a monster to what we consider monsters, but I went to see a monster movie and got one and enjoyed it. I've seen the original ending, and it just kind of cuts the hero's legs out from under him. With that ending, there's not hope. Humanity devolves into savages and there's no reason to want anything better. The original ending is crap in my opinion.
Knowing. wasnt bad, hoping to have an awesome apocalyptic ending. but NO, somehow these stalking heavenly angels wanted to take a totally unimportant kid and this random little girl and take them to another planet so they can reproduce the human population while the human race dies on earth.

Martyr's is a one of a kind French horror movie with a whole new level of horror like no american movie has done, but I really didn't think the ending rivaled the story.

I think it should have ended (1 being the best possible ending):
1) when the kid falls/jumps off the building into the water
2) when he finally sees the Blue Fairy and the copterthing gets stuck
3) when it shows the shot of the aliens flying over the ice.
but it just keeps on going...

Anyone seen Midnight Meat Train. It in essence is a relatively good movie, but the ending is so ludicrous it made me

Started with a cool premse IMO, next thing I know Wahlberg is singin' on the porch. What the what?
I agree with this one wholeheartedly...
BUT, it is in keeping with the Stephen King patented "the main character will succeed but at a great loss" ending in every story... this one was just taken to an absurd level of brutality.
Ok, not a movie, but the SciFi (or Syfy, whatever) channel's Battlestar Galactica series -- this was the best thing ever, and I was really happy that they decided to wrap it up and give it an ending rather than drag it out till the ratings died. But the final season became totally lame, and irrational, and dragged out too long like they were just trying to fill in the required number of episodes. Left a lot of loose ends and inconsistencies too.

Lord of the Rings -- I could feel during the final movie that the "scouring of the shire" wasn't coming, and I could tell that it just wouldn't have worked anyway. But you're all right, that ended up being the endless denouement. The original structure is supposed to be that you feel things gradually relaxing and going back to normal, then suddenly everything is all wrong at home. Didn't quite pan out. Without the scouring, Jackson should have just wrapped it up with Aragorn's coronation and maybe 120 seconds of life in the shire and the grey havens.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail -- I teach this movie sometimes in history classes. The ending isn't funny -- but I think it is very deliberate, and it gives the movie an edge and a relevance that it wouldn't have if they had ended on a regular gag or some conventional climax.
Watchmen -- Absolutely right. WHERE THE HELL IS MY GIANT SPACE SQUID!???

No Country For Old Men. Watched it last Friday night. It has to have the lamest ending I've ever seen in a movie. The plot was left out to dry, with so many loose ends that if it were a pair of pants, it would be down around my ankles by now! So what happened to the hitman? Did he kill the girl in the house (don't know)? Why did it end in the sheriff's kitchen? Not a bad movie otherwise, but I'm sure glad I got it for free at my local library!
