IDIOTS. Players that continually cancel rehearsals or make excuses for themselves clearly demonstrate that they don't give a crap. If they don't, why should you? Much better off without them.

To the OP - I have not read all of the posts, so sorry if this was mentioned before, but...

Could there be something else going on?

Last time I was fired from a band it was like this -
Them: We need a new bass player. Our old bass player is not cutting it.
Me: OK, lets see how rehearsal goes and if I'm a good fit.

We rehearse.
Them: You want to play a gig in two weeks? We're going to fire our bass player and you'll replace him.
Me: Well, OK.

Yes, I wanted to gig, and no I didn't think twice about the old bassist. I got the full set list, practiced my butt off (just a cover band), attended their next practice. All was a go for the gig - 4 days away.

Day before the gig -
Them: Uh, we decided to use our old bass player for this gig. Sorry. He sings a lot of the songs.
Me: OK. Do you plan to keep him, or am I still in?
Them: Yea, you are definitely still in. We're just going to do this one last gig with the old guy, then he's out.
Me: OK, I'll come up and watch the show. It will be interesting.

So on Saturday night I watched them play at the bowling alley. Old bass player is doing OK, but something is just not quite right. In the restroom you couldn't miss it - bass was behind the drums by a varying amount depending on whether the guy was singing or not. Sometimes he was way behind. I could see why the band leader/drummer wanted him replaced.

And I called them a week later to see where we stood - got the old "we'll call you, don't call us" thing with more assurances that I was their bassist. Never heard from them again.

Your new ex-friends may just be affraid to tell you they changed their minds and decided to go with someone else. Better to be cut loose though then left hanging. Glad the other band is working for you.
