Got to try the New Nordstrand NP5 pickup

Nino Valenti said:
I spoke to Carey about these pickups and IIRC, the NJ5S is a Stacked Humcanceller and the newer one he's working on is a side-by-side Humcanceller.

...and more precisely, NJ5st (stacked). The new coming one are more probably going to be called NJ5S (spilt coil). They're pretty much the same as the NJ5FS (fender size, spilt coil) but in the 3,73" size.... :)

Carey correct me if I'm telling bs :eyebrow:

'nice evening

But Carey is working on an NJ5SE.

With this news I now have the complete set of p/u options for my soon to be unveiled bass offerings:

4- string basses:
NP-4
NP-4 / MM4.4 (parallel/solo/series)
NP-4 / NJ4SE
NJ4SE / MM4.4 (parallel/solo/series)
NJ4SE / NJ4SE

5- string basses:
NP-5
NP-5 / MM5.4 (parallel/solo/series)
NP-5 / NJ5SE
NJ5SE / MM5.4 (parallel/solo/series)
NJ5SE / NJ5SE

What more could anyone wish for? :hyper:

All the best,

R

Nordie Big Singles, Dual Coils, and Fat Stacks - of course!
:)

Ok, since my trusty employee said we've got an NJ5S ready to go I decided it was time to finally get them done and tested. So, they're going into the trusty test bass today and I should be able to report later if they're good to go. They have the same wind and wire as the NJ5FS so they should sound almost identical.
Just to be clear about my model names:
N = Nordstrand (or new, I'm not really sure)
J = Jazz style bass
5 = number of strings
S = Split
St = Stack
If it's intended as a retrofit for a Fender we add an "F" after the string designation.

For the four string models we have these suffixes after the string number:
SE = Split Enamel
SV = Split Vintage

Nino, what's the bridge pup here?
How is the bass wired? All passive, or?
Could this be done with 2 stacked pots?
Scale length?
If it's 34", Carey advised me to install the P5 pup reversed to get the B string poles closer to the bridge for more B string clarity and definition.
Pretty curious about all this as it looks like the direction I'm headed for my '51 P5 project...

thanks-chef
