Got to watch Jeff Ament up close Monday night

Scored pit tickets through the Ten Club for PJ in Indy Monday (after waiting a year because the original show was postponed). Great set, was really cool to get to watch Jeff up close. He played his EUB on Nothingman and Black, 12 string on Dark Matter and a few four strings. Mix sounded great. I also got a lighter from Eddie and pick and signed Polaroid from Mike and my song also got a Mike pick and Polaroid and Eddie handed him a pick. Incredible night

When Pearl Jam first came out, I liked them but didn't go bananas for them like everyone else. Looking back and listening back to his playing with Pearl Jam and Temple of the Dog, etc... I now love his playing and highly impressed or amazed just how musical and mature those baselines and their songs in general were for just a group of kids. I got to see Temple of the Dog at MSG and he was incredible, the whole band was for that matter.

Love their first three albums, they are engraved in my brain. Also like the next two. Then, I lost interest in they new releases.
Saw them 2 years ago at Hyde Park, they were great.
Look for tickets to see them this year, it was just too pricey for my pocket. The tickets for the 2022 show I had them since pre-pandemic, at pre-predemic prices, it was just a show that got delayed 2 years.
Is crazy how much they have increased in such a short amount of time.
I love Jeff's playing.

Yeah, this show was supposed to be last year and got postponed. So i held on to my tickets, (wasn’t giving up pit!) and this year’s prices for the other shows were a good bit higher than last years. Unless prices start coming down or they finally come back to Michigan in the next couple years so i wouldn’t have to travel, this is probably my last time seeing them.

Larry Bird, i have better shots of it but not all the pics will load on here for whatever reason. And for the encore he changed into a 33 shirt to solidify it.
Speaking of shirts, for the encore Mike changed into that Stooges shirt and i had on the same tank top! He noticed it after a couple songs and we were laughing and pointing and interacting about it as much as is possible in that environment. He even did the a small fraction of the backbend Iggy is doing on it and i pretended to do the same. It was a cool moment in a night full of them.

Great shots, and what a cool experience being that close! I didn't get into PJ early on - I was in 6th grade when Ten came out - but came to dig them later on and played catch up. Have only seen them once, in 2004 on the 'Vote For Change' tour when they came to my city. I've always appreciated Jeff's playing, and when you consider how varied his choices of basses and his approach to the songs were on Ten and Vs., it really showed his versatility within the 'Grunge' label and era. I get that people want PJ to keep putting out repeats of 'Ten', but I appreciate their growth after 30+ years as a band. 'Riot Act' was a super important record for me, and 'Avocado' and the most recent 'Dark Matter' are high points too. 'Dark Matter' hasn't left my CD player in my car for months. It's a great record with solid writing, and some staying power IMO.

Thanks! The new ones were really good live too, especially the upbeat ones. Wreckage i like a lot, but didn’t go over as well live as i expected. Upper Hand was better than i expected live, but also was at the end of a run of five new songs out of the last seven played, so i think it lost the crowd a bit. Still though, the opening run of Wash, Nothingman, Present Tense, Last Exit, Spin The Black Circle and Not For You was so perfect, they could have played only the entire new album after that i still would have left happy!

Thanks for sharing these! Incredible pics! Pearl Jam Ten and Vs are etched into my musical mind. I remember learning every bassline on those albums (as well as Temple of the Dog, Rage Against the Machine, and Soundgarden's BadMotorFinger). I was inspired to build my first bass; a fretless 6 using Warmoth parts by Ament's playing on Ten.

Built in and around 1992 or 1993 I think and a project I did with my dad, which makes this one a keeper. Maple J bass body, 5 piece maple and mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, custom-wound bart soapbars, bart active tone control circuit. It is not perfect and VERY heavy, but served me well at the time. The string spacing is tighter than I like, but that is mainly due to the neck being made for a 5 string and converted by Warmoth at the factory for 6 strings - and it being a time in my playing career where I didnt really pay attention to those details. In this shot, it is strung with nickel rounds, but now it has TI Flats on it, which required a new nut and set up. It has been replaced as my main fretless by my Fbass AC6 (no contest between the two), but it was fun to build and fun to play for a long time...not one I will part with, but it may not see much real playing time. We shall see.
