Grammy's...sucked?!

They've sucked for the last 15 years, at least. The Grammy awards were swirling the bowl before the Milli Vanilli flap, which was the final nail in the coffin for me.

I turned the TV on to the broadcast tonight, saw Kanye, and immediately changed it to a King of the Hill re-run.

I tuned in only for Radiohead's performance. Was disappointed by Thom's vocals, but the marching band made up for it.

solid performance as usual, but 2 out of 5 radioheads = bah.

and i was soooooooo looking forward to that mini hiphop summit, but a very pregnant MIA made for an incredibly uncomfortable and awkward to watch performance. aint nothin' like someone ready to pop to give your career street cred.

and of all of sir paul's massive catalog, he does that... boo.

seriously, does anyone take the grammies seriously anymore?

Is there a less respected major awards show than the Grammys?

You can argue with who actually wins, but I'd argue that the Oscars generally does a good job of nominating the right films and actors, but with the Grammys it's a complete crapshoot. Sometimes they have groups in the complete wrong category.

And the winners are completely puzzling. Jethro Tull beating out Metallica for best metal album? A Taste of Honey beating out Elvis Costello for best new artist?

And while I liked the Allison Krause/Robert Plant album, it wasn't nearly as good as In Rainbows.

It's almost as if whoever chooses the winners is out of touch that they go with the older band.

I only glanced over my GF's shoulder now and then as she watched it... Amazingly terrible, every second of it. Was that Bobby Brown "rapping" with the guy from Coldplay? Easily the worst fake "rap" I've ever heard, far worse than Dee Dee Ramone. But it matched the equally low standard of Coldplay. And Whitney's drug-induced brain damage was way too evident.

And the fake "comic" patter of the announcing artists, barely able to read their unfunny lines off the TelePrompter... Gah.
