A lot of my favorites have been mentioned here already (such as David Ellefson and Justin Chancellor), but I thought I'd add Klaus Flouride (of The Dead Kennedys) - my favorite pickstyle punk bassist of all time. Matt Freeman is excellent, too, but he doesn't top Klaus when it comes to SF Bay Area punk.

Anyway, it seems to me through reading all of the posts that Duff McKagan is pretty much the favorite pick player. But I think Roger Waters deserves a mentioning, yeah I know some people disregard him because of Gilmour's playing on "Hey You" but he's still a great pick player.

I think it's pretty ignorant to define a bass player by his picking style. To each their own. There isn't a right or a wrong way to pluck the bass.
