His sound was mush? Soundman must've had a bad night, or it was a bad room! I've seen Motorhead dozens of times over the years (and also seen him with Hawkwind at the Hawkfest) and I think he's got the most penetrating bass tone I've ever heard. I remember seeing Joey DeMaio one night and he was the same, completely blurry tone, but all the other times I've seen him he was clear as a bell. I've never heard Lem sound like mush. FWIW I also love Chris BTW....in fact Lem & Chris are 2 of my top five bassists ever.

Ok, i just got home from my shift at motorhead gig in melbourne last night. i didnt finish until about 3 hrs ago! 
his tone and sound is pretty mean but just really sounds like a massive heavy distorted guitar its nothing special.
even the bass clean is nothing magic really but the drums sounded amazing 
I was there during soundcheck and literally right up front watching and hearing lemmy play with no crowd there. I recorded some drum kick, snare, tom and hi-hat samples from the drum check too. I'll use them for a track. Funny seeing him bitching with the sound guy haha! (hes had the same sound guy for 20 years im told. The sound guy looks SO much like Garry Glitter its not freaking funny!!!...well it is but you get what i mean)
I got up on stage and took a peek at his lovely Rics but the position of them in the rack meant the pics i got were pretty crap (but i'll upload them anyway)
I was given all the guest and special passes/stickers to look after, you know the cool looking tour ones. Jasmine St Claire's was one of them and she never picked hers up lol!
(not like she needs it) so ive got that haha!...shes hot. i'd nail her...but Lemmy is 
After the show and gear/equip/crew bump out i went back down to the dressing rooms and ate all Lemmys mixed nuts and fine selection snacks and bottled water lol!
oh yeah and Lemmy loves a nice big bowl of strawberries prior to a show! (oh yes, i have a pic of the strawberries for you all!)

Well that's just a matter of taste, because it sounds pretty damn special to me !

+1. Not a huge body of work, but Jerry was a guy whose playing came a long at an important formative time for me. In 1985, when I was just getting into the instrument, I saw him play with Steve Morse, and he was just wailing. It made me so excited about what could be done with the bass.
He is sadly not playing much these days, but he does post here now and then. Very nice guy.

How the heck does *anyone* know Bobby Vega?!?! I don't even know where I can hear some of his work!
I first heard Bobby's name from Jeff Berlin in 1980, when Jeff was conducting a clinic at Berklee. Jeff said that he'd just heard this bassist named Bobby Vega who was one of the most amazing groove players he'd ever heard "even though he uses a pick", and I made a mental note to check him out. Except for one mention in an old issue of Bass Player magazine, I've never seen or heard Bobby's name since.
Glad the TB gang is in the know! Now where can I find me some Bobby?

i've been really digging eric judy from modest mouse, he uses a pick, and has some great bass lines
