Great cover or devolution into elevator music?

I actually kind of like it. Not as much as the original though. If I heard a cover band doing it in a club, I would like it. If it was a LZ tribute band, not so much.

The intro did nothing for me or the song, though.

For those that aren’t familiar with Blue Cheer, in the 60s they were the loudest band in the world. They did a recording on the Hudson River, where they played on one side, the recording equipment was on the other side...to kind of give you an idea.

LOL! Boy does that name ever bring back memories...

Ain't no cure for the summertime blues. Or the long term hearing damage you'd eventually experience after listening to Blue Cheer play that song in concert. ;)

Douglas Adams based the band named Disaster Area ("most destructive rock band in the universe") in his scifi classic The Restaurant at the End of the Universe on Blue Cheer.

I understand your concerns dear TBrs...... BUT (especially the INTRO.... it doesn't fit) but then they pretty much play the cover faithfully........... ( except they don't) we used to call this Fuzak.... basically you take the edge off at certain points with chords... that have too many notes.... or... chords that just don't fit the style. The little thing they do at the end of the chorus... it just pisses me off, what can I say.. BUT... yeah these are a bunch of SOLID players... good camera work...and I actually really like the instrumental part the end where they change keys a couple of times.....JPJ would like that. I've got my Zeppelin Vinyl..... so you guys you who are yelling..."Get offa my lawn" !... I get it.. at the same time... there is a lot of respect in this version. IN A WORLD... where so much music that sucks.. I think they did a good job... bassist stepped up... thank you OP.. because I probably never would have heard this without you

I am reminded of my high school band director. We would all, with some justification, dump on Muzak. But he pointed out that elevator music kept a lot of musicians gainfully employed so they could work on other things that didn't pay.

I have no problem with radically reinterpreting a song. Postmodern Jukebox does it all the time and it's amazing. The problem with this, in my opinion, is that it's actually TOO much like Zeppelin. They make a gesture toward rocking out the chorus, but then stuff it with a couple of easy-listening chords at the end. If they had gone for a full-on sophisticated Lake Street Dive-style take on the song it could have been very cool.

Here's an example of a totally changed cover, mellowing out a rock song, that I think really works: Joss Stone making a funk tune out of the White Stripes.

(original song for those who don't know it):
