Of course I was "joking". This guy AND his band were/are terrible. They sucked.

Thanks to the "ghost" players, records could be made. No comment on the writing quality.

And no, I didn't even notice the hair spraying. Although this band's success was largely attributed to this.

Well, you would be surprised, there are people who think they were great. I just don't expect to run into those people on TB! There are many threads that glorify the pinhead from Green Day and lots of kids who think that he is a great bass player!

I'm never surprised concerning these things.

For example: the Lottery-Winner-Bass-Player in U2. He has legions of worshippers.

Warwick has definitely "jumped the shark". Making a bass that lists at $12k and making a bass that lists at $499 in the same factory is just fishy. For me if a company makes $500 basses, then nothing else they make is worth more than $500.

My reasoning- are the $500 ones junk? If you make junk why would I trust you to make one worth thousands? Or if your $500 one is a quality instrument that does everything you would ever want, then why would I need a $12k one?

I'm not so sure. I have several older basses that were "entry level" but quality instruments. The only distinguishing factor being the quality of the hardware. I have upgraded the pups and bridge and when necessary the tuners and the result was equal to the top of the line instruments for a fraction of the price.

Like I said,one does certainly pay a price for "exclusivity".

I have a Rickenbacker 4003 that has less than perfect binding, the dots on the side of the neck looks to have been applied by a drunk, and the bridge is slightly crooked.
I also have a P-bass from Fender Japan which is flawless, and it costs one third of the 4003.

But your blanket statement is still wrong.

I don't think I made a blanket statement, but I will- there is no bass that is worth $12k to me. I have a yamaha bb-300, and bb-450 and a first year Washburn xb-100 all of which were good, functional instruments. By upgrading the pups and hardware they became great sounding and dependable. Anything beyond playing and sounding great and being stable with regard to intonation would be purely cosmetic.

Looks like you did.

I will however agree with you that there is really no reason why a bass should cost 12k. The materials and labor that goes in to building such an instrument does not even come close to justifying the price. And there is no way that it's objectively 24 times better than a 500 buck bass.

Agreed, often my words don't accurately convey my intent. But I do know that if you contact Warwick and say"I only have $500" they will try to convince you that $500 is all you need to be a star. But if you have $12k ........
There's a big gullibility factor. I drive a 2002 Chevy blazer to work. A 2014 Maserati won't get me there any more accurately.
