Greg Chaisson, the ridiculously talented bass player for Badlands and Red Dragon Cartel, deserves a signature model. The 1st Badlands album was ONE thing. Their secocond album, Voodoo Highway, was a complete tour de force. Listen to the song "Shine On", Alone--youl understand what a maniac bass player Greg was/Is!!....

Consider I've never heard his name or the names of either of those bands before, I'm going to say he doesn't. Signature models don't exist to honor great players, the exist to sell instruments. If this guy's name sold instruments, it would already be on one.

I was never familiar with Badlands, but I remember Greg Chaisson's solo record 30+ years ago when I was a teen.

He was opening for Kings X a few years ago, but the promoter for the show here was a completely incompetent buffoon and screwed things up so badly that Greg's whole set got cut while they finished setting up the sound system in front of a packed venue. So I didn't get to hear him then. They were super disappointed to not even get their instruments out because things were going so poorly. King's X started probably 45min late, but they put on a great show.

I'm a huge Badlands fan, and a fan of Greg's as well....fantastic bass player but lets face it...you and I and a handful of other fans of 80's Rock are the only folks who really remember him. Those 2 Badlands albums were excellent but I don't think any company, much less Fender, would sell many basses with a Greg Chaisson model.

Yeah, a forgotten band that had two albums 35 years ago, whose combined total sales make them not even a blip. It doesn't matter who was in the band, or how awesome they are. Signature models come down to a few things.

Are they a name instantly known by a large percentage of music listeners? No.

Do they have a significant social media reach? No.

Have they established themselves as a trendsetter, or contributed new innovation to the instrument? No.

Will they inspire sufficient numbers of musicians to buy a bass that they don't actually need? No.

We get that you really like the guy, and that's very cool. But nothing here adds up to qualifying as a signature artist. Being unnecessarily rude to people who engage in the discussion just because they don't validate your fantasy is a bit immature.

Awesome band, late 80’s at The Palace. They were just rockers. Not the typical garbage that flooded the genre at that time. Almost bought a Seymour Duncan amp lol.

Excellent band and have seen them many times. Jake E Lee at his finest. Great on vinyl but greater live band. HEAVY!
Him and Greg were the groove. He's a great bassist but signature I don't think would do well. That was so long ago.
Greg is still around. I think he's at Bizarre Guitar now.

Greg is a huge inspiration to me. I never really think of Red Dragon Cartel for him though since he only toured with them, and briefly. Sounds like he would have kept on with them if not for his cancer diagnose at the time. He's done a lot of great work though. I dont know what a signature bass would look like for him. He's a very meat and potatoes kind of player. Always killer tone though.

Got to meet him a couple years ago at a show his band was supposed to play here in Albuquerque but got completely screwed by crappy promoters. Still actually havent seen him play. I need to take a trip next door to see him in arizona. He's a super cool guy though, Ive had lots of communication with him over the years.

It was definitely the liner notes in his solo album It's About Time that had me playing 50-70-95-115 gauge strings for a long time!
