This is exactly your problem. You have no idea who he is which is totally fine.
Yet without listening to him you say that you have no interest in him at all.
You then go ahead and say that you are SURE that he's not in a band that changed music or the world.
How are you so sure? You just stated that have no interest and dont even know who he is.

The fact is that Alex Webster and his band did change music. They helped to pave the way for a ton of todays metal bands. Just because you dont listen to metal doesnt make that less of an accomplishment.

I highly doubt that Paul "changed music and the world" with a closed mind.
You might want to start thinking like your heroes.

I happen to agree with you sir.
I just dont understand how BW can have such a narrow mind for music.
I mean its totally fine if someone doesnt like a certain genre but as a musician I'd assume that you could at least respect what others are doing.
It's obvious that he's trolling yet again but I just cant seem to stay away from the thread lol.

You may hate Cannibal Corpse, but they helped change the face of metal.

When I was a kid, Thrash or Speed Metal was the term used for bands like Exodus, Anthrax, Slayer, etc. that played harder and faster music than "Metal" bands like Maiden and Priest. And Hardcore was used to describe Punk that was harder and faster. Now there's Grindcore, Prog, Death, Black, Doom, Stoner,Industrial, Melodic, Symphonic, etc....Anyway, as an old dude, it's harder for me to follow.

But it does go to show that Metal has matured as a genre. When I was a kid, it was still forming and it still has room to evolve now. Good stuff back then, and good stuff now. It's just that back then I didn't have a wife telling me to turn that stuff off.

So do you think it's possible for me to do Solo Acoustic Metal as a subgenre?

dude, metal played on acoustic guitar sweet!

i know a guy in a...like...deathcore..? yea deathcore band. and he took guitar classes in high school, and he would sit in the music room during lunch and play acoustic guitar, and he'd practice his deathcore songs on acoustic, in drop D. They sounded AMAZING...i always wanted to record him playing.

He was part of the acoustic metal scene, you know?

My old drummer and I always joke about someone starting a Symphonic Black Metal Tribute to the Dave Mathews Band.

In technical playing? Youre absolutely right. Webster would crush him.
In songwriting? Well Paul certainly had more commercial success since he was in a band marketed to the masses. However Alex had about as much success as humanly possible in his genre as well.
I say for commercial success the beatles obviously win but when looking with respect to the two genres they're about even.. Yes I know that the beatles sold way more albums but Cannibal Corpse wasnt trying to pull in the whole world. They knew they were a sub-genre and were okay with that.
They do what they do and they helped to change metal as it is today.

The fractured sub genres are more for metal fans than non metal fans for example the previous band i was in was brutal slam death metal. to a big time metal fan they'd be like "oh sweet i love brutal slam" if the person i was describing my band to wasnt a rabid metal fan i'd simply say "we're death metal" and they'd say something like "i'll come check you out"

the problem is people will go into a metal fans message board or butt into metal kids convos, not understand what they are hearing and then b***** about it because they didnt understand it when simpler solutions would've been to ignore it or ask questions

In my area definitely; metal fans are very supportive of most metal acts, genres, experiments, etc in the area. although i'm pretty sure you were joking on this point

buddies of mine are in a death metal band and i talked them into playing a few songs acoustic at a party we were at. they sounded so amazing the singer and guitarist are pushing to record them for the cd they are working on
