Hummm.... I have a hard time comparing the Beatles and Cannibal Corpse. They are about as far apart as could get IMO. The Beatles are mainstream pop that were loved by the masses and Millions and went on to worldwide fame and wealth. C.C. well they have been heard by millions worldwide but fame and masses no and wealth not much..its underground music to most and if you walked up to 100 people and asked who these guys were or who their bands were I'm sure we all know whow that would turn out. But, I will say I respect both the same as an recording artist and for the mark they left on the music world.
I'm not a big Beatles fan prefer the Stones and as for CC not a fan prefer Lighter metal like old AC/DC etc.
I have a funny CC story. A few ago I was in Mom/Pop music store and right up front they had the metal CD section. I was poking around and noticed there was a brown paper wrapper over a section of CD's labeled 18 and over only! I picked it up and looked inside.There was a small selection of CC, CD's the first I have ever seen their CDs (Graphic) and the song titles
A pimply faced kid spoke up who worked there and said they had a complaint or two about the cover's artwork and some kids laughing and saying the song names out loud in the store offending other customers. So they covered it and made it 18 and over..funny?Im a little insulted that not one TBer that is my age came to support me with this comparing this Alex who ever the hell he is to Paul McCartney.
Again, I am not talking about styles. Even though I have never heard of this guy, I am sure he is not playing sweet melodic running bass lines like Paul. You cant compare the two.
Whoever this guy is, there will always be guys trained in classic music that can play fast as hell. But you will only see one Paul McCartney in a life time. Thats just the way it is.
Playing guitar or bass fast and getting up in my face has never impressed me.

No, you can't, but then again, to say that Alex Webster's band didn't change the face of metal, and by extension, music as a whole, well, that's just flat out ignorant and stupid. Oddly enough (maybe not?) that's about par for the course when you start talking.
This entire thread is nothing but you talking out of your ass about things you have absolutely no clue about, which is why no one is coming to your defense.
Most people your age don't have arguments that are more often associated with 13 year olds like "x is a better bass player than y" in two completely different eras/genres/etc.
Why would someone need to be your age to know the inherent "rightness" of your argument, anyway?
BW: Okay, I'll give you this: Paul McCartney is certainly a far more influential figure in music than Alex Webster. Better is utterly subjective, but influential is not. Paul's writing, in and out of the Beatles changed how music is written, period. But "Better"???
Again, that's subjective. I've never been a big beatles guy, and I grew up with them (I've never been a good "follower", and so when a band is all the rage, I tend to reject it...).
The core thing here is that you are just stirring Sh&t here, over and over... that the youngsters & metals heads are taking your bait is their bad, but you're just trying to provoke folks. I have to simply ask "Why"???

I had similar experiences and wound up in a metal band...
Grind on the other hand is some of the most brilliant music. One of my friends is a drummer in a grind band and he doesn't have to have anyone around to play. He is one of the sickest drummers I have ever seen, professional or otherwise. Yes the guitar can get droney, and the vocals are barely vocals, but to say it's garbage? Wow talkbass! Way to dismiss an entire genre that's been established since the early 90's and probably even before that. Napalm Death anyone?
...and it won't be popular until the major record companies find a way to market and exploit it.

Now you're back to sounding arrogant. Starting playing at 10-11 gives you a different mindset? Garbage. If you think choosing to play that young is somehow noble or something, you're mistaken. I started playing because there was a an attraction to the idea of it. The way I view it, bass is noblest instrument one can choose to play. I began playing when I was in Pennsylvania for a funeral and I chose to mess around on my cousin's bass. I was there because my grandfather died. I felt that my grandfather, who always supported everything I did and took part in my life, was there after death to bring me to the thing that is now one of the most important things in my life. Don't belittle me for thinking I chose to play for some superficial reason and that guys in my age group are inwardly focused tools, because clearly you're being one yourself.
I'll be 40 next month. I live in Richmond, VA the capitol of the south & the largest college town In Virginia. VCU, VUU & The University or Richmond surround the city. I've played in Hardcore, shoegazer, death metal, Folk, prog metal & stoner rock bands in RVA. A year or so ago I was out at a show to see "Lamb Of God" (largest metal band in the world right now & also from RVA) I know these guys from before they became "LOG" Anyway as I'm going into the club some kid with a "Lamb Of God" T-shirt on looks at his friends & says (under his breath) "Damn that dudes old" better call the EMT's now. I stop & ask the kid what he says & of course he says nothing, why would he I'm a 6'4" tall 265lbs. grey bearded black guy. I say I heard what you said kid & if you must know I'm the exact same age as the lead singer on your LOG shirt. I verbaly give him a good beat down before he sees me hanging out behind the stage with the band he & his friends came to see. Other that that Music is universal & without age. I've been in bands where I'm 15 years older than the drummer & ones where I'm 2 years younger than the guitarist. It's all still music & just a matter of taste.

Reminds me of a couple of stories:
I was at a club once, where I was the only Asian guy in the place. I overheard someone say "I wonder what "Ching-Chong" doing here. I responded, "playing bass for the band that you paid money to see".
I also had a kid going on about XXXXXXXX and how he would hate me, and my response was "I actually met XXXXXXX and he was no-where near being as big of a douche as you are."
Bluewine, please learn the differences between "your" and "you're" and "to" and "too", amongst other things...
Good gravy this thread has really come through! I will contribute absolutely nothing of value to this thread, as has been my position for a while, but I certainly won't stand by and watch it die. To the top! I sense that we are a few measly pages away from a final resolution of this matter, what ever it is.
