Oh no. Someone is trying to form a band that plays music that you don't like. Definitely sounds like a valid reason to complain. They should probably only play music that you like.

yes for the most part the fan base is. i can even admit that as a huge fan of punk music...which i see the fanbase age as similar...and part of why i gave up wanting to play street punk a few years ago....it was musically limiting on bass and all the people in the scene were for the most part immature kids bitching about the government but living comfy lives with mom and dad buying crap.

Yea I hear you on that. As far as the local scene is concerned there is a large amount of younger guys involved.

have them listen to that drake song that goes "nails done hair done everything did"...then the best grindcore song you could find....what do you guys think would have the majority favorable vote?

Yea. Youre probably right. But that doesnt make grindcore a lesser form of music.

hell....blues isnt popular on the grand scale of things in the usa...but even the most non musical average pop fan prolly woudlnt tell you its bad music.....nor the remote african dude whos never heard western music

btw i dont care if people like or dont like a given genre...all my point was theres a reason that even todays less popular genres that were mad popular back in the day...were for a reason....these new "extreme" genres if you will....will end up being forgotten in comparison to the others and we know dont have the capability of being popular.

I could make the same "unlistenable" argument about tons of jazz that is highly revered in the music world.

There's an analogy I like to use for situations like this. Obviously you all know English. As such, poetry and other literature written in English sounds right and good to you from an aesthetic standpoint. Well, that's awesome. To a native English speaker, who does not speak any other languages, Arabic sounds guttural and harsh. However, believe me when I say this, Arabic poetry kicks the pants off English poetry by a mile. There isn't even a comparison to be made. It is a beautiful and fluid language IF you understand it, and when I say "understand it", I don't mean knowing what the words and grammar are; I mean understanding the tonality and inflection of the language and how the sounds work together. This isn't even a matter of working to achieve that understanding; It's a matter of it clicking for you. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.

The fact that grindcore music (which I don't personally enjoy) sounds abrasive to you has nothing to do with whether the people playing it have an artistic statement to make, or whether their music is a valid form of self-expression; It has to do with whether your ears can process that kind of abrasive, gutteral, "ugly" sound, much like hearing German or Arabic, in a way that makes sense to you.

Also, the point about natural human response is fundamentally invalid. Play some classical Indian sitar music for the vast majority of people and watch them get confused and bored. Play some native African music. It will be abrasive and foreign to most people's ears and they won't initially like it at all.

nnever said it was art. but its def better music than grindcore. lets be serious. theres a reason its fanbase is relegated to immature kids who havent matured and picked up new interests yet.

if i had a dollar for the amount of kids who are into garbage when they are in high school and once they hit college or post college life...they broaden their musical tastes and styles....id be rich

crappy genres are naturally not appealing to the ear. hence lack of popularity really. theres a reason why lighter crap music trumps the hell out of darker crap music

K so as a growing fan of today's metal and metalcore, I have this to say:
In highschool, I listened to mainly funk, blues, classic rock, and only the earlyest punk music, I took a year of college music study after highschool and began to love the constantly changing patterns and melody's of classical and neo-classical music,(I also found atonality highly intiresting).

Now I am done school and working full time for a year to go back, the drummer in my blues/rock band has been showing me the different newer styles of metal. I see just as much musical commitment and talent in bands like between the buried and me and whitechapel as I see in muddy, the wolf, Jonson, and all my other blues idols I grew up with, to put down another style because you fail to appreciate it doesn't show your age, it's shows immaturity, quite the opposite.

So I guess I am backwards from the kids who "listen to garbage in highschool", I'm probably not the only one.

this is really a pointless debate anyways because as with any of these discussions...people will always fall on the being objective/its a point of veiw/opinion remark.

so like sports or politics or any topic. it can be thrown on that. consensus or minority opinion on anything is never right...nothings good or bad.....or bad can be good and good can be bad with ANY topic cus people always fall back to the same point no matter the topic.

makes debate rather pointless...but meh...i stand by my previous stated points...btw metalcore is way better technically and musically than grind lol
