This is because (I theorize) "metal" is not just a form of music; it's also a lifestyle or philosophy. One who subscribes to that lifestyle tends to consider all things metal to equate with desirable and cool. This makes things awkward when faced with a band that (in that person's opinion) sucks: it's metal, which equals good, but they suck, which equals bad---does not compute.

The way metalloids break out of this conundrum is to define a sub-genre of metal which is the "real" or preferred metal, which includes the bands they like, and identify some other sub-genre comprised of the bands they think suck. The result is vitriolic internet brawls over whether band X is in genre A or genre B, the answer to which depends on whether you like band X and which genre you prefer.

i dig some Grindcore and some extreme forms i have friends who play grindcore and also one who tours all over the world doing it but they are the legends....also the ones who innovate are the ones who stand out as with any other style......what the band Repulsion did or say what Terrorizer did, and bands similar, started a whirlwind and now it has branched out to many different styles also grindcore is not about guitar solos or technical mindsets or anything flashy at all and if your looking for that grindcore is not for you. i like all sorts of music and can not really talk too bad about other forms unless they are being a total carbon copy. to me its just a form of "extreme" most music styles have their own form of extreme in one form or another.

i was being sarcastic really, i forget sometimes that it doesnt translate well to the interwebs.. they all have ridiculous chops. if i ever become a quarter of the bass player he is i will die happy in that aspect

I was forced to watch that 30 minute Kanye Video... Forget what its called, my buddy explained how it would "change my life" . I've never had to sit through a more painful 30 minutes afterwards he's like "So common, your going to be telling your kids bout dis **** right?"

These bands make music because it is a creative outlet for emotion. If you make art of any kind without emotion, it is a waste of your time. If these grindcore bands want to make this kind of music, then fine. Who is it hurting? I like some of it, just because to play that technical for an entire song, or album, or gig is amazing to me. Yes, not always musical, some of it does suck. If done right though, it kicks ass. I will never understand why people have to start threads dissing genres or bands they hate. It really is just trolling, and it is insanely annoying. If you don't like it, don't freakin listen to it!!

First sentence, yes, metal is a lifestyle. It is why 75,000 screaming people show up at Download Festival. The rest is the most insane garbage I have ever heard. Just real trashy to say that about all metal music, and metal musicians. I will never, ever understand TB's constant bashing on the few, proud metal bassists that are here. If I wanted to stoop that low, I should start a thread about hating country music, so all you country dudes can feel what it is like. It's art, not a freakin' contest, and not all supposed to appeal to everyone. That is why there is different genres: for different people.
