The movie owned! The trailers were absolutely hilarious!
Planet Terror was amazing.
Tarantino is my favourite director and I own every movie he has made....but Death Proof took way too long to get moving....The end made up for it for the most part, but still....I expected better from Tarantino.
I didn't know they were already planning on making the trailers into another Grindhouse, but that will be amazing if it happens! Maybe they could do a Zombie/Roth Grindhouse and do Werewolf and Thanksgiving!

I'm a huge Tarantino fan but this looks nothing short of ridiculous. I haven't seen it yet but I really don't like the look of it.

People are saying his dialogue in his piece is too long, but I love Tarantin dialogue so I might like it...

Saw it Saturday and really enjoyed it.

Here are my thoughts:

- First and foremost, I don't care who Rose McGowan was engaged to - that chick is friggin' SMOKIN'!

- The Thanksgiving trailer was hilarious, but I think the funniest trailer was "Don't".

- Overall, I liked Planet Terror better than Death Proof. Why? Because Planet Terror was "truer" to the Grindhouse/low grade/exploitation form than Death Proof. Death Proof's dialogue wore me down a bit, frankly, and it could have been so much "better" by being so much "worse" by traditional Hollywood standards. I really think the excessive dialogue was not necessary as it did absolutely nothing to establish anything and, in fact, detracted from the effect that he should have been going for. His film had all the makings of a perfect compliment to Planet Terror and he really could have made something that was grittier and that truly had the feel of those schlocky 70s films like, for eample, "The Car".

If the entirety of his film had been more like the last 30 minutes, it would have been much better. There were lines in his film that seemed so contrived - as if Tarantino felt like he absolutely had to give the dialogue "his touch" - that they came across as patently self-serving. Case in point:

"Why is she dressed like that?"
"Because she's doing a cheerleader movie."
"What's that?"
"It's a movie....about cheerleaders."

- The grainy film technique, scratches, missing reel, music, trailers and graphics really made the whole shebang an "experience", however, that "experience" kind of trailed off in Death Proof - anyone notice that?

- I wish they had staged both films in the 70s for an even more authentic feel. The graphics had a distinct 70s feel, but the films were set in modern day - a poor decision, IMHO.

- Terror Planet was VERY much like the bajillion God-awful horror flicks released in the early 80s. Laughers like "The Being" came to mind when watching it.


Overall, a great experience and I give the whole shebang 2 appendages up.

It was a great watch, but that's probably the longest thing I've seen in the theater. Had a hard time staying still, but I can't complain. Watching this film made me realize that the ones with the most annoying laughter in the theater are the ones that laugh at the complete opposite to what you find funny.

just saw it tonight, finally.

another vote for planet terror over death proof. and rose mcgowan was really hot in planet terror. (and still pretty good looking in death proof.)

for me, the voice-over for "thanksgiving" made it funny. that and the fate of the boyfriend characters. :D

i'm a pretty squeamish person, but for some reason, when robert rodriguez does violence (sin city, planet terror), it doesn't bother me in the least.

Yeah, I think about the same as everyone I've talked to. Planet Terror was pure Grindhouse fashion fun. Death Proof was just boring.

I don't really see what was so INCREDIBLY funny about Kurt Russell getting beat up, either. I mean, OBVIOUSLY it's easy to see the irony, that's a given. But, what's so great that it's the climax of a movie? Kind of funny, but it the whole second film seemed to just drag compared to the energy and fun of the first one.Plus, it just didn't go anywhere. Lots of dialog with a couple of quirky lines thrown in, but no real plot or unique/interesting situations at all. The cars were ok, but they didn't describe them in true detail, and there were only what, 3 of them? Not a true "car movie" in my opinion.

Overall, worth the first movie, and a couple scenes out of the second. Trailers are fun.

I saw the early Metreon showing last Thursday... full house, great audience!

I'm with most of you on this one... awesome overall! The "fake" previews were awesome, especially Machete and Werewolf Women of the SS. Don't was hilarious, and Thanksgiving, while funny, also had some outright wrong parts. Still, that's what made it so great :D

Planet Terror was definitely the better of the two films. It's what a good over-the-top horror B-movie should be. I was enjoying that one from start to finish. Having been so disappointed with most 90's and modern horror movies, I was ecstatic to see Rodriguez's rendition of a true cult-style zombie flick. Plus, Rose McGowan is hot, with or without both legs :D

Death Proof dragged on with much of its dialogue for too long. Honestly, I haven't seen Tarantino make a truly memorable series of long takes since Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. I think Kurt Russell did an awesome job in the movie, though, and the last half hour of the movie was awesome. Seeing Stuntman Mike get a taste of his own medicine was hilarious!

When it comes out on DVD, I'll definitely be buying it. Grindhouse is definitely the best film of the year so far (way better than 300 :p)!

For me, it was the fact that he's played so many roles as a badass or hero (Escape from NY/LA, 3k Miles to Graceland, Stargate, etc.) and it was nice to see him not only play a bad guy, but to see him lose in the end. Plus the crying after the final wreck was amazing.
