A PJ bass. Any kind will do. I just got a Fender PJ the other day, and it's tone is very simialr to that Pantera tone. Grindy and very fat.

For the lowest price point I'd say an SX Jazz (especially the ash + maple models) does what you're looking for. Tons of growl there. I have an SX PJ as well, and the Jazz has far more growl.

G&L. Listen to Fix Your Face by Dillinger Escape Plan, sounds SO MUCH like a Ric with his G&L and SansAmp it's ridiculous. I heard he might have used a Spector, but he had the G&L live and it was just as spectacular.

im kinda looking for a bass that has a good growly tone, think rickenbacker, but cheaper

just throw suggestions at me since il be trying a bunch out anyway

budget is sorta £500 ish, but go ahead and suggest higher, i could probably skip eating for a few months if i like it enough

oh and passive or active, which is better suited? (even though i know what the differences are suppost to be, i can never really tell the difference)
