I think its fair to say that a previous owner had this made, although I kinda dig it, and with the holes in the body required to fasten it, its not going anywhere.

Hi - new European member to this forum (visited this thread throughout the years though) and I thought I'd start off posting in this thread...I started playing bass as a teenager roughly 36 years ago and became very interested in the Guild Pilot around 1986...Long story short, I bought a total of four of them but unfortunately wound up being forced to sell the first three, but I did keep the fourth and best one of them all - a 1991 SB602 (S.Nr.: BE104106) with P/J EMG's and "some kind of an onboard pre-amp"...I bought it new back in late 1993 and gigged with it for several years afterwards before taking roughly 15 years off from playing...Now getting back into the game again and have unpacked my Pilot (from it's original case) which is still in "like new" condition (you have to take excellent care of your expensive toys, you know) and begun playing it again...What's always been interesting to me about this particular Pilot was that my other 3 were all solid colors (black, blue and white) and this one is (I think) flamed maple with translucent orange - very pretty...Also, when you open up the back cavity to change the battery, you can see that the 4th pot (closest to the bridge) was added after this bass was already painted - I've never seen that before on any of my other basses (div. BC Riches & Jacksons & couple of Epiphone T-birds)...My other three Pilots all only had 3 pots each...Anyway, I'll try to upload a foto to see if it works and I can add more later...If anyone here still has interest in this thread and/or Guild Pilots, I'd appreciate their thoughts and comments about mine...Thanks in advance

Here are a handful more fotos of my Pilot and it's details... I put the Hipshot D-Tuner on myself shortly after I bought the bass - at the time, there was not a black one in stock, so impatient me took the silver one rather than wait for a black one to be ordered...Always meant to buy a black one and change it but I never did... :-/

it looks like an added EMG BassTrebleControl as in in the "advanced" pilot 902s (about the same pot position too).

For the life of me, I will never understand why the builders at Guild thought it was a good idea to put such a huge pickguard on these early Pilots...I mean, it's a great piece of Pilot history to own as a collector, but personally, I would never have bought one myself because of the look, especially when one can see how beautiful the Pilot body is without it...Must have been a period style.

That's pretty sweet. I've never seen one of those before. I actually live about a half hour away from Westerly, where the plant was. Guild had been in Rhode Island for a long time and it was sad to see what happened there. But, it's stll pretty cool to have a Pilot, something that was crafted a half hour away. ...It's a Rhode Island thing! lol

I only have one at the moment. It is a black 1983 20 fret bass. I sold the white '84 back to the original owner. The black and red basses were traded years ago. I found both 20 fret basses on eBay.

You know, the more I look at this sleek black "bare bones" Pilot, the more I like it and the more I want it - I think you should sell it to me, 58kites... ;-)
