My children were born in '81 and '84 and raising kids was the best time of my life.

On another note, I outgrew my old pedalboard and got a really, really good deal on a Novo 32 last week - now there's "lots" of room... This is what my Pilots run through...I plan to add one last pedal, an E-H bass mono synth - for when I like to DEVO...

...It was so much harder to find pictures of cool Pilots back then!

It's still not so easy to find good pictures of cool Pilots but they do turn up out of the blue now and then...

Here, I'll share a few of what I think are good pictures of Pilots:

1.) A de-fretted, de-inlayed Advanced Pilot in Greece:

Nice pics! My 605FM came with a Hipshot, tuned EADGC. 45 serial numbers away from that one. I'm the second owner.

Do you know if it came from the factory with the Hipshot (which I think would be unlikely) or if the first owner installed it...?

Factory gotoh style detuner, I don’t believe it’s made by hipshot. I’ve had quite a few fivers that came with them. That 8 string is currently sitting at my house, it was a 602. That bound fretless was a factory fretless 902 with line inlays from what I remember. I remember talking to someone specifically about that bass waaaaaaaay back in the day when I was an avid advanced hunter. If I remember correctly, maybe not, it’s been quite a few years, but, I think that piezo fretless was a lane poor pickup prototype bass? I remember when it popped up on eBay.

That bound fretless was a factory fretless 902 with line inlays from what I remember. I remember talking to someone specifically about that bass waaaaaaaay back in the day when I was an avid advanced hunter. If I remember correctly...

I'm sure you're mistaken - it's owned by a well known Greek bassist in Athens I'm friends with...He had the frets removed and replaced with line inlays and also had the block inlays removed...Those inlays were replaced with ebony blocks...The original blocks were left at his luthier but were sadly lost when he closed shop...

I don't see anything that would indicate it's not a Hipshot? I've had and have lots of Hipshots since the late 80s with Gotoh, Schaller, and their own machine heads.

I'm sure you're mistaken - it's owned by a well known Greek bassist in Athens I'm friends with...He had the frets removed and replaced with line inlays and also had the block inlays removed...Those inlays were replaced with ebony blocks...The original blocks were left at his luthier but were sadly lost when he closed shop...

I wish you had all of your old Pilot info still...Very unfortunate that I wasn't here before you deleted your database, I would have loved to have taken it over from you...

The red 8 string - was it you who had the new neck built for it or did you buy it from the person who did...?

it’s my friends. Just visiting me for now. I also have his hog bodied pilot, it’s outfitted with a fretless neck now but is a fender pilot style body.

the info I regret the most, was my search for the serial number switch in 87(I think) where it went from the foot to the cake cutter head stock. I think I had it narrowed down to within 20 or 25 serial numbers.

There us a VERY, VERY, VERY nice '85 SB-602 with a burst finish for sale on Reverb now - the condition does match the asking price, imho...It's in Venice, FL.

Hope someone here falls for it and gets it...

It’s hard to tell by the angle it’s sitting on (and the curse of those triangular floor guitar stands with Pilots): is the 8 string the same scale?
