Of course it got a very thourough once over and shine up when it arrived and I do try to take nice fotos as well...
Yes, when I wrote the original post you were referring to, I had meant to write the DeArmond Pilots, not the Pro Series - but I messed up...When I re-read it shortly afterwards, I discovered my horrible mistake and fixed it with that second post...
So, I had a really great "online experience" yesterday evening - by chance, I "met" and chatted with a gentleman who happens to own a few Pilots...
He was kind enough to share a few fotos with me and said that he wouldn't mind if I shared them with you people here...He said he would send me more fotos at a later date - I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to seeing them...
Anyway, look closely and enjoy - it's not everyday you are lucky enough to see Pilots like these...

I'll tell you what I know...
First of all, it's NOT a DiMarzio equipped SB-601 with a maple fretboard - it is a SB-602 that had it's EMG'S and it's rosewood fretboard removed and replaced with DiMarzios and a shortened 30" scale maple fretboard...

I think it's more of a coincidence really - have a "little file" on Pilots and there are less than 10 603s in it...They have just been topical of late...
Bowdren stated that he got the number of produced 603s ("about 50") from the manager of the Guild factory, a Mr. Fritscher - one would expect that figure to be accurate...
However, we could speculate that "about 50" could have a plus/minus number of say 20% - so there could be as few as 40 units and as many as 60...

Nobody is addressing the elephant in the room? It was vaguely mentioned and commented on. That shortened scale fretboard? My first question would be, Why? It didn’t make for a lighter bass, which is one of the major reasons for buying short scale. It only shortened the reach by a little over an inch, which is another major reason. And, how in the world could you do that to such a nice and unique instrument? To me (and I’ve been wrong many times), that pretty much defiled something that should be almost sacred.
