Mustang Surly & Katthestar -
Thanks for the timely information. After about 3 -5 years of daily use my original 1969 EB-2D suffered neck and bridge stability issues - if memory is correct after ~ 45 years. The EB-2D had two pups + a baritone switch that gave some flexibility in tone, but nothing stellar compared to today's gear. (An aside: I loaned this bass to a buddy who claims he "bumped" the neck resulting in separation at the joint to the body. I've seen a number of neck repairs on EB2 and 2Ds.)
I want a semi-hollow body for a tone very different from my 1974 Ric 4001. From what I am hearing, hands-on with a Starfire is in order. I am leaning towards newer than vintage. Thanks again, folks!
