I don’t give pet names to objects. It is, in my opinion, a weird symptom of our pathetic substitution of material wealth for cultural and social richness.
Some of our stuff have names; most don’t.
Here are a few, including instruments.
This is Bucephalus, named so 35 years ago by our then kids. I used to play this 62 Jazz while we were watching VHS movies as a family. In this case, the then kids decided the bass was like the horse in the Black Stallion; one of their favs.
This is the Bass of Clubs. It’s a parts bass that has seen a lot of parts changes through the years and a LOT of gigs.
This is the Albatross. It’s a parts bass with a mismatched neck and body, due to my ignorance that the 2007 J5 Dlx neck didn’t fit the 2014 J5 Dlx body, both of which came from the Stratosphere. When I realized my mistake, the parts sat in a closet for over a year while I was figuring out what to do; during which the project became the albatross around my neck. Pat Wilkins bailed me out, and the bass has seen a lot of gigs after eventual assembly.
This is TreeBlast. Our grandsons named it. Our son is EOD, and put this rig together while stationed on Oahu for off roading (an EOD off duty thing there). Now it is doing duty in Northern Michigan’s UP.

I've had basses that just organically pick up monikers over time.
I have one main bass...Vincent, and two backups Turner and Hooch. All three are from the family of Van Lows. If you aint weird, we aint hangin...
No name inspiration has ever come to me, and I sure didn’t want to work so hard as to come up with names.

I nickname some stuff, but with plenty of irony…
“Lumpy” - ‘75 Precision
“Annie” - sad old acoustic guitar

My upright is caled "Peggy" because "Peggy Adams" is scrawled into the finish on the top of the back.
The only bass I ever named was my first bass, a hollowbody, had no name on the headstock, was found somewhere around 1970, it got named Spoon. For obvious reasons. I left it in an old apartment sometime around 1982.
I was delighted to see years later, the battle cry of The Tick was Spoon!
