There’s been much shade thrown at guitar center , mostly regarding the brick and mortar operations . Some of it has been deserved and I’ve been guilty myself but I need to give credit where credit is due.
I was planning on ordering a deeply discounted item that was part of their holiday sale.(27% under the normal street price)
I kind of lost track of time and put off ordering.
After the hustle and bustle of Christmas subsided, I went online today to check and lo and behold, the sale was over and the price had been restored to original.
I missed it!
Damn!
I figured “what the heck” and gave them a call and pled my case.
After speaking with one of their phone sales agents, I was told that they would honor the holiday sale price for me even though the event had ended.
Good on them. They made a happy customer.

A similar thing happened to me just before the pandemic hit. I went to buy a bass at the local GC and when the salesperson rang it up I noticed it wasn't the sale price I was expecting. I asked about it and was told the day before was the last day of the sale. One of the managers was in the checkout area so the salesperson stepped over to him and they had a quick hushed converstion and the manager nodded. I got the sale price and they got a very happy customer.

They made a happy customer.
 good for you --- good for GC!

i've never had a problem with the joint: GC has always been fair to me. they either have what i'm looking for or not, but i've never had complaint, per se. that said, i'm mostly an online patron these days.

edit: but i definitely get a kick out of the bashing/whining threads! i can't be the only one. :wideyed:

I’ve found that if you deal with them on the phone using the main number, they will be really helpful and accommodating.
It’s the lack of quality employees in the actual stores that give them a bad rep.
You just have to do your research and know what you want. Often you need to know more than the poor minimum wage salesperson so you can help them to help you.

….and never pay extra for the “pro coverage “ scam

I have almost always been very happy with GC employees in the Austin area. They seem to all be musicians first.

i got my first bass at guitar center in like '07 when i was still a kid and they could still do like discounts if you asked nice enough, they gave me a 470 usd plus tax fender mim jazz bass for like 430 usd total
the guy went like "i'll give it to ya for 430 but no gigbag" and he saw my eyes light up and i went like yeah sure that's cool and he then went like "eh screw it i'll give you the bag too" lol
