Guitar Center discrace

:crying: All those who are bashing GC... just stop going there already! Geeez!! If they are as bad as you say then just buy online only and stop complaining!! :D

+1

But, it's good to know about these experiences so the average person, who maybe found this thread on google, has a chance to read these reviews so that they may make an informed decision to go elsewhere.

I have only been there once for parts in 4 years.

This is the business model of box stores. Any employee that really KNOWS their field won't be there for long. They move on to better things. Those types of stores want clerks. Pay them a minnimum wage, teach them the company line, pass them the company coolade and BOOM! Instant box store employee! ...until they spend some time in the system, realize what a scam it is and what "cog in the company wheel" they really are and leave! It's the whole reason you find the staff turnover you do with box stores every six / eight months. If you want knowledge find a good independant dealer.

I actually like Guitar Center for the most part. It's a useful store and I can get what I want now instead of online. My only gripe with them is they tend to have a lack of stock on items I'm looking for. So if I want to say try out a new pedal or something and they don't have it in stock (from a big name like MXR), I have to first purchase the pedal and then try it. I actually asked a clerk there the other day if he could order me a pedal to try (MXR Bass Envelope Filter) and he couldn't do it for whatever reason. Sucks because I probably would have bought the thing and they carry basically every damn MXR pedal but this one. Amazon has it cheaper but I wanted to try it in person. Sooo...yea more stock would be nice. Variety.

Might I add that last time I checked noone is ever forced to spend their money at GC... yet people still like to complain about it. Its like some people are happiest when they get to complain!! I dont like Wendy's hamburgers, so guess what... I DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM WENDY'S!!! McDonalds has horrible hamburgers in my opinion SO I DONT EAT AT MCDONALDS EITHER!!!

STOP SHOPPING AT GC IF ALL YOU DO IS LOOK FOR REASONS TO COMPLAIN!!! :spit:
This response would only make sense if the OP has made one or more threads complaining about Guitar Center previously. If this is his first public complaint about GC then I seen this thread as entirely warranted. He is just trying to share an experience hopefully with the intention of sparring others the same hassle. Not every poster here has read the many previous complaint threads about GC on this board.

I will still purchase small stuff like Strapes, cables, and/or books as the need arise, but as far as the large purchases. I will be looking elsewhere.

Why? If you find what you want, the item works as expected, the item is free of blems / defects, and the price is right, why not buy it? However, if you're not sure what you want and relying on the salesman's knowledge & expertise, all bets are off. Leave quickly with your wallet intact and regroup.

 I'll +1 ya Joe because ALL noobs need to be informed... BUT... I did a google search on "guitar center sucks" and 152,000 results are at my finger tips.

I have seen countless threads on TB and other forums complaing about GC and it just get to me I guess. So instead of me complaining about those who complain.... I'll make this my final post on this thread in regards to using the word "complain". Future posts on this tread will be used in a POOOOSSSSITIVE MAAAANNNNER to only motivate, not rant. Peace! :bassist:

Agreed, but there was others who found this as an oppurtunty to jump in on the Bash GC Session... and not that I blame them I've done it myself. But hey what if... what if... just what IF the moderators made a forum dedicated to GC that allowed folks to post the goods and the bads. That would be a positive forum that EVERYONE could contribute and vent a little and it could all be contained in one simple forum. Just the thought makes me happy. :hyper: (and hey I made a post and didnt complain about complaining! Im proud of myself!:D)

to put a little bit of perspective on this, i am sure that the luthiers, pros, and techs on talkbass probably find me somewhat clueless and unfamiliar with the ins and outs of basses and amps beyond playing retro rock and hardcore, i try to be diplomatic with store people, because several of you guys have been very patient with me for the last year while i was trying to get started again after a ten year hiatus

People have to understand that there are those that still want service with a smile. The last time I went to GC, which it was about 4 years since going before this time, the GC rep was super nice. All I bought was a Speakeon adapter. But, it takes a few more good experiences to right the one bad one.

Yup -

I posted a thread last week about a good GC experience -- And what makes it odd is that this particular GC (West Covina) is not all that far from the GC in Pasadena, which really stinks.

Different managers make a BIG difference. Heck, I should run a GC. I'd crack some *heads*!

I refuse to make any purchases (Basses, Amps, Etc) from GC. Due to my experience.

I had a Schector Stiletto Extreme 4 on layaway and I was paying it off little by little. Well once I had the Guitar paid Off. the Sale person was bringing it up from from the back and even across the Store I saw that my brand new Bass was covered in Finger prints, dust and the likes. The Sales person then just hands it to me like it was a lump of dead fish. I was very disappointed. I thought their customer service was severely lacking. My opinion was that before even handing me the guitar, they should have cleaned it up so it looked nice. Heck I am paying good coin for it.

A little background on myself as to understand my belief. I work in a Harley Shop. Every bike that rolls out of our building is washed or at the very least wiped down to remove finger prints. Be it a brand new sale bike or a customer's bike that is in for an simple oil change. The only time we don't clean up the bikes is if the customer specifically request that we don't.

I had have people tell me that it wasn't the same. That people expect more from paying 15,000+ dollars for a motorcycle over a 400+ dollars on a Bass. I don't see any difference. Good Customer service is exactly that. Good customer service. Whether i am buying a $150 POS bass or a $32,000 CVO Harley. You need to take care of your customers.

Cause if you don't. Someone else will.

This. I would never hand something over to a buyer in a shabby condition.

GC once sold me an used RH450 for new. The surface of the amp was oily fingered here and there and there was even a light finish worn at the corner edge. To me, the item looked like a previously opened for display or a customer returned prpduct as well as the wear shows signs of use for a while.

The sales person was trying to convince me that it was TCE's fault and every cosmetic damage was done before the item was sealed and packed at TCE manufacturing. He said that to me becuase the item was sealed.

The guy then kept continuously telling me that cosmetic condition is not an important matter at all as long as the machine works fine [no matter I am paying for new or not]. He was obviously trying to make me feeling bad for asking for an exchange by saying "To me, the amp is totally fine but I understand your logic yadayada..." i had a feeling that he was trained acting like that to the customers concern about cosmetic condition.

I didn't really want to argue with that person being an ae-sohol* to me and I just took advantage of 30 days of no question asked refund policy. I was so glad to see that RH450 is removed from their inventory list so there is no way for now that they can [possibly] repack and sell it again for new. Later, I found another deal that was way better than what the GC offered.

I really don't like their nonsense excuses to cover up things that they are responsible for though I still have a great respect for few sales people at GC treating customers well..... :/

Dude! Thats MY Guitar Center! And yes, Ive had nothing but good experiences dealing with the people there!

I visit my local GC (VA Beach) semi-regularly, and I have commented here before that they seem to do a better job than most at taking care of their instruments. That said, their salespeople are mostly young enough to be my kids, and they don't know much about the gear they're selling; given the sheer size and variety of GC's inventory, you can't expect them to know everything anyway. I understand that up front, so I don't even bother talking to the salespeople until I'm ready to check out. Saves me a lot of headaches that way.
