I wonder exactly which "rosewood" they are using. It can't possibly be CITES controlled "Brazilian rosewood" (dalbergia negra), as that wood is very scarce, even from illegal sources. An instrument with a legal Brazilian rosewood neck would be very costly. A few years back, a Sadowsky Brazilian 4-string fingerboard from recycled furniture wood cost me $475 as an upgrade when I ordered my beloved P/J.
I'm betting they are using so-called "south Indian rosewood" (dalbergia latifolia). A fine wood, but also not super abundant. Anyone have more info?
Just a guess but its probably whatever kind of rosewood Fender was using on their fretboards until recently. All rosewood has export restrictions now so they must've have some left over.
