I just got a japan squier from used guitar center and while they did list it as a 3 out of 5 stars, so I knew it wasnt perfect , this bass is trashed. Dents and chips all over , but good frets so I would have looked past this all if the neck wasnt cracked. It has a small hairline crack running from the skunk stripe.

How does one go about returning a used bass? I would be willing to repair it if I was given a chunk of money but I am not sure if they do partial refunds.

You can always try to get some $$ back. Otherwise, you simply walk into any GC with bass and receipt in hand and ask for a refund. If it was shipped to you, you probably won't get a refund on the shipping charges. If it was misrepresented then you have an argument.

Good luck!

I would have had it shipped to one if I lived in a town with a GC but the nearest one is about 35 miles away. I will contact them about a partial refund, if they say no go I will be in a town with a GC next monday and then will just return it.

If the closest store is 35 miles away, call the GC.com 800 number. Most likely it was rung up as a dot com order anyways. Explain them the situation and what typical cost would be for a repair and see what they can do.

If they can't do anything, just request an RMA and they'll provide you a shipping label for return.

In this case since it seems they didn't fully inform you of the cracks (that is if you spoke to a salesguy and got his name) you may be able to get your shipping cost back. However if you ordered directly through the site yourself, you might be SOL.
