I am not sure if it was used or just marked down, but the Guitar Center in Southfield, MI has an Ivory White (possibly even Pearl) Sting Ray HH5 with all gold hardware for $999.99. Didn't play it as it was after a lot of driving and a two hour professional meeting in between the driving shifts and I was pretty tired, but it sure looks pretty!

Fender 62 reissue j bass $499 ?

*If I get out there to check it out before it sells, I'll report back on it.
Nice find. These are tricky. If all original, basswood and no hootenanny button on back of headstock, good but not great. If alder body and U.S. pickups, sweet deal on a JB62-US. If two piece alder body, nitro finish...screaming deal. That would make it a JB62-VSP which is the Fender Japan equivent of an AVRI. They come with a fancy gig bag. Inquiring minds!

Thanks for the additional info what to look for.
I know certain tells being a J bass fan, but know nothing next to the Fender players.

I'm going on Friday or Saturday. I have to pass through that way.
Figured I look and report back in case it is the sweet deal it may be, great bass for someone wanting to get into a decent J that normally couldn't afford it.

EDIT 4/30 It sold Thursday night before i could get there.
