If anyone is in the market for a Stingray 5H...I would have to say to steer clear of this one...

It’s at my local store in Alexandria, Va and has been there for at least a month. It was hung way up high so I had to ask for assistance to get it down.
It plays well for the most part, but that’s about all that’s good.
First, it is is pretty bad shape. It has been very, very used, and probably never cleaned. I would guess it is an early 90’s model if not late 80’s. Body has a lot of scratches and chips. The back of the neck is smooth. All hardware no longer glistens.
The preamp does not work. I don’t know if it’s just a dead battery, but from my experience with Stingrays, if the battery dies, there is no sound. This one has sound and the 3-way switch works...but none of the tone controls work. All the pots feel jacked, too...can barely feel the center detent’s in each.
Looking down the fretboard, the G-side is straight, but the B-side has a huge ski-jump at the heel. I’ve never seen a ski jump on half the fretboard.
And the way his one was built, the G string is closer to the fretboard edge than the B is to its edge. I experienced the string coming off the fretboard if I pressed too hard. Maybe that can be fixed by re-setting the neck in its pocket. You can see what I mean in the close-up pic of the body.
I wouldn’t touch this thing with a 10-ft pole for $999. Maybe $300 tops. Neck might be fixable and you can get a new preamp...or just part it out and make a ton on eBay. Definitely not for a grand, though. The “good condition” rating on GC’s site was obviously given by a blind person.

I saw it but didn't pick it up. Sorry! I noticed it had about 10 knobs , seemed a bit excessive for a jazz bass. Had it been in reach I would have but I didn't feel like making the guy bring his ladder over for every nice bass on the wall.
Not sure what this is, but if the picture is accurate, it’s definitely not an American standard jazz. Looks to be a 70’s reissue. Pickups are 70’s spacing, 3 bolt neck, bound and blocked. Someone snatch it up.

Gone already, what was the price? Also, the item ID is from years ago so that does not bode well.

Only mentioning because of this recent post. There's been an Ibanez Grooveline G106 for $1,499.99 on the Sam Ash Used site for a while now.
That was a great price. Not really a TB approved look, but they are a super nice sounding bass.

Generally not. Sometimes they will throw in strings or something.
More things to beware of:
—frequent errors in listings
—disorganized order fulfillment (CALL and talk to a human)
—vintage items have 72 hour return policy
—other returns in 30 days [EDIT: 45 days] at any GC for as long as they remain in business...
