Guitar Center used site

I recently noticed some items that caught my eye on Guitar Center's used website, but I didn't know how it worked if you were interested in an item in a different state than your local GC.

My hypothetical situation is like this: They usually only post one picture of the item, so what if you buy the item and pay to have it shipped, and you're not happy with what you received, yet you paid over a grand for it?

Has anybody ever bought amp heads and had those shipped? If so, what do you figure they generally charge to ship those? Also, is there wiggle room on the website prices on used gear on their site if you call or email the store, like there usually is at your local store in person? Any experiences with this, fellow TB 'ers? Thanks.

Yea. Normally they'll deal via phone or email, unless the item is "Just Arrived." If you buy it over the phone, shipping charges are normally very good. You can always look up the item number on their website and put it in your cart and it will give you a shipping estimate, but a lot of us here have found that the shipping is normally way less than the website implies if you talk to someone over the phone. Sometimes, you'll even get free shipping if you play your cards right.

As for shipping, etc., you have a 30-day return policy. You can just return the item to your local GC. They refund everything but the shipping in most cases. As for packing, I've never purchased a head from them, but have bought many guitars and cabs, and in my experiences, everything has always been packed way beyond necessary, which is a good thing.

I recently got a bass from the used site and after a couple days I discoved I didn't like it much.
I called them and they sent me an email with a return label.
I printed it out, repackaged the bass, taped the label to the box and took it to UPS.
A few days later all the money was back in my account, including the shipping cost that I spent getting the bass to me!
That was unexpected.

A very painless process, compared to some other companies.

Wow what a deal, on this Kramer. I have gotten enough deals so along it goes. BTW this is worth a easy $300.

So I've been curious. Would ordering a large cab from GC's Used site be a bad idea?
(Say a 70 lb 410 or something.)
Do they charge for oversize shipping?
Not really looking, I'm just wondering.
Has anyone done it?

I've had a few heavy items shipped from GC's used site (2 Hartke LH500's, a GK 410 Neo and a Hartke AK410) and have always had good luck, though I have always dealt with them over the phone. I remember calling about the AK410 (great cab BTW) last year after seeing it posted in a near mint condition for $150. After chatting with the associate I was sold and asked about shipping. I can't remember the exact cost, but the shipping itself was only 20 some dollars, for a 65lb 410 and then whatever the tax was on the cab ($10?).

I've had a bunch of heavy items shipped to my doorstep. Shipping prices have climbed a bit, but they're not unreasonable. I've sold enough stuff online to know how expensive shipping can get (recently eBay started offering shipping using their account which includes a hefty discount...one thing about selling on eBay I really appreciate).

Anyway, the thing I appreciate about GC shipping me gear is that the people packing don't try to minimize the packing materials. They don't care if they use miles of bubble wrap or large volumes of styrofoam peanuts. I like that from two perspectives, one that the new-to-me gear arrives in the same condition it left the store in and the other that I have all sorts of packing materials left over for the inevitable (be it this new toy or previous new toys).

A few years ago, I bought a well used Hartke Hydrive 410 from a GC store on the east coast. The cabinet arrived in an Ampeg box from a SVT410HLF...a much larger cabinet so the Hartke was swimming in a sea of peanuts and I think they charged me under $20 to ship it (but they're shipping was really, really cheap then).

Summary: I wouldn't hesitate to buy a heavy item from GC online or over the phone.

At least he's selling it on Ebay for a markup instead of here like some sellers do.......(cough, cough......Yamaha Pulsar.............cough, cough.........

You remember that bass better then me. What can I say , I am all for capitalism. I sold 3 basses to that guy at different times knowing he will flip them for profit. I don't care , he puts in the work and I don't. He shows up and looks at it for 10 seconds and hands me cash, no tire kickers, no shipping etc.
