I've ordered a bunch of heavy stuff and they've done a pretty good job of packing it. Shipping costs are generally very reasonable (although I have seen a few head scratchers).

You can get a worse-case shipping estimate by putting the cabinet in the shopping cart and hitting the button that will give you the shipping cost.

I've read that some have had luck buying used gear from GC over the phone and talking the sales person into free shipping.

I almost bought a second Sonic B610 cabinet from GC. The store was near Dallas and I'm near Chicago. I think shipping would have been about $50 but someone else on TalkBass got it first. $50 to ship a 100+ lb 6x10 isn't bad.

I got my GK Neo 412 from a store in Jersey. I live in Ohio. They gave me a great price to ship it. It came freight style, no box, but wrapped in enough bubble wrap to send it around the world. Haha. Came in on a palette. Was kind of funny, actually.

Normally, when I'm buying used from them, I call the store. Normally they'll cover the shipping if you pay the tax. For cabs, they normally charge the shipping from my experience, but the cost is wayyyyy less than I've ever experienced buying privately.

I learned a lot about GC's shipping prices when I was trying to purchase a Crown XLS1500 power amp about 9 months ago.

As most people in this thread probably know, there are two used sites that have the same items. There's the used gear listings on the normal site, and then there's used.guitarcenter.com.

Basically, the shipping is flat rate for different categories of gear, i.e. everything in the "amp head" category will be the same price. But problems arise because the categories don't always match on both sites.

I found the Crown amp originally on used.guitarcenter.com and then went on the "normal" site so I could put it in the cart and order it. I went to check out and it quoted almost $60 for shipping, which is absurd for a 10 lb item. That's when I noticed the amp was categorized as a "stage subwoofer," for which $60 shipping would be reasonable, but it was only listed this way on the normal site. used.guitarcenter.com had it listed correctly as a "STEREO/MULTI CHNNL" power amp. Dug a little further and learned that ALL the items listed in this category were under the subwoofer category on the normal site.

I called the store to order it over the phone, and was also quoted the same shipping price. I explained the problem with the website. Since GC associates place phone orders through a specialized version of the website, the error also existed there. I was told there was nothing that could be done to lower the shipping costs so I hung up.

I sent an email to GC customer service about the website error, and my experience dealing with the store. I thought maybe they'd be thankful I'd discovered this major bug in their website. But I never even got a response, and they never fixed the problem.

Here's an example to see for yourself. And to appease the deal-hawks who don't like discussions in these threads, it's also a pretty good deal if you can figure out a way to get reasonable shipping :)

I generally agree, but go to the Amazon thread and just TRY to discuss a piece of gear. You will be told to shut up and your post(s) will be deleted. It doesn't bother me, because I know the rules of that particular thread, but it's like the Soup Nazi every time someone makes a comment that is not an actual deal being posted.

Well it actually DOES bother me- this is a very social forum, and I get tired of the same people whining about the email notices they get everytime a thread gets a reply (which is of course hypocritical as their reply does the same to someone else). But such is life...

If every thread was like that here on TB, i doubt I'd stop by as often as I do. :bassist:

This is a good deal now that I see people asking $1200 for sunburst 62's, they use to be $900 or so. Fiesta red's are rare.

I just got a used bass from GC. It has been awhile since I ordered a bass from them. The packing was very well, the bass was rated 3 stars which I agree with due to finish chips etc. The strings were nice and low and brandnew looking.

The battery was dead which I found funny. It looks like a wiring hack was done at one point. I wish they described condition better but overall I am happy. I think its worth what I paid, maybe even $50 or so more.

I didnt want to send it to a store because it still costs money to ship. I rather it just roll up at my house.

I got a Fender Prophecy II. Never had one or heard of one. It was price cut to $249 and I said no I dont need it. A week later it was $199 and I had to buy it. A MIJ fender for a squier price. With tax and shipping it was $242.

I only have this one from GC. You can see a chip on the front by the bridge. That was the worst. There is buckle rash on the back, some headstock rash but not into the wood just chipping.

The A tuner is hard to turn and the bushing in between the tuner and machine looks tore up. I will see about replacing just the bushing as I would like to keep it original. COntrol cavity is missing 2 of the 4 screws.

I was just posting to show the GC deals pull through okay, I know some people worry about buying from them online but this is prob my 10th used bass from them. It needs a little work but it was a 3 out of 5 so I would say the rating system is correct on this one.:cool:

Not bad for $242.85 total.

I recently noticed some items that caught my eye on Guitar Center's used website, but I didn't know how it worked if you were interested in an item in a different state than your local GC.

My hypothetical situation is like this: They usually only post one picture of the item, so what if you buy the item and pay to have it shipped, and you're not happy with what you received, yet you paid over a grand for it?

Has anybody ever bought amp heads and had those shipped? If so, what do you figure they generally charge to ship those? Also, is there wiggle room on the website prices on used gear on their site if you call or email the store, like there usually is at your local store in person? Any experiences with this, fellow TB 'ers? Thanks.
