peaked my interest too ..I can't find out much about "J3" geetars..other than they were an importer in the 00's..had 3 levels, of which the Phoenix line was the lowest. This thing has no cutaways..(tele!), rear route..crap MIC hardware..is probably poplar...$80 for a MIC beater.. it's weird..the bridge looks like a BA, and it ALMOST could be a Fless..but wrong on both accounts.

Gorn gave me a heads up about this bass yesterday, but having a night to think about it, I'm going to pass on this one and put it up here for our fellow TBers to consider.

Late 80's Fender Power Jazz Special - $199

It says it's a Walnut parts bass, but it's not. The body is original, but been stripped and finished as shown. The neck is straight, but has been defretted and the slots filled with putty. The electronics work fine (I think?). They usually go for between $400-600, with prices rising lately due to Fender Japan shutting down.

Gorn Captain would be better to tap for answers for anyone more curious (and again, thank you for the advance notice on this one).

Still a nice price with the mods, if its was $100 more and had frets I would buy it. I cant do much with a fretless though

Yeah, it's the pulled frets that killed it for me too. I thought it would be a good learning opportunity to do a refret, but I actually have other necks here for that purpose and I still haven't gotten to those either.

Ugh this is pretty. Damn shame about the frets tho.

I just tried pulling the trigger..had it all checked out..was told there's some "spaces" on the fboard..putty shrinks! and there's no finish. sigh. Anyway, I decided to do it, and axxed for some $$ off..now they are "consulting" other GC's about the price! We'll see what happens. Man, bottom feeding is a really funny thing.

It wasn't too bad. The a string saddle had one missing screw and one stripped screw. Other than that, it's workable. I coulda kept it around for noodling but I know the novelty woulda worn off. I need frets. Here it is from the day I briefly owned it. (Didn't come with the bag)
